Rumor about “modified experiences” when Disney reopens (read 1st post for potential modifications being considered)

Not bringing this up to discuss it, but as an example of just because it works in China doesn’t mean it works in the USA. People aren’t going to listen. For better or worse we are different.

Masks I think on the public will be encouraged. But there is no way they are going to be able to enforce that. It's Florida. It's 95 degrees and humid. You'll be lucky if you get people to wear it for an hour. Are you really going to have CMs going around yelling, "put your mask on!" "Put your mask on!" That's going to get ridiculous fast.

I understand they do it in Asia. But it's more accepted in that culture and people doing it there are willing to put up with the inconvenience.

And it has been said from day 1 - Americans are going to have to get used to a new normal. Make no mistake, Disney can require and enforce masks if they want to.

Disney will implement a lot changes to keep social distancing. Mickey will have to grow a set and start enforcing them. Other parks don't seem to have a problem evicting people who take their phones out on rides.

It’s bigger than Disney, IMO.

But expanding on that probably takes us too far from Disney so I’ll stop. Just don’t think we can look to levels of compliance in China and apply it in the USA.

Not sure how often you visit wdw but enforcing is not one of wdw forte. In the beginning im sure most will comply but then one person will take it off and then the next and then the cm will try and enforce and get yelled at or worse.... entitled is a word that gets thrown out there a lot and from all my experience unfortunately some wdw guests are very entitled and don't think rules apply to them

Unfortunatly true. Changes will have to be things that people don't have a choice about like if you remove 50% of seating from a QS then the seating simply isn't there to sit down in.

This is true. There are guests who go ballistic about even the slightest enforcing of a rule. When I was a CM, someone checking in parked their car in the middle of the port cochere, blocking other cars in. No one could drive through. Politely asked him to move his car to the side lane. He lost it, started shouting & called me a string of obscenities. Not trying to go off topic, just giving an example of a small correction that led to a confrontation.

There are many people who visit WDW who blatantly break rules OR are over defensive & get aggressive when told they are breaking a rule they didn’t know they were breaking. I see a real problem with people complying with any social distancing procedures they implement.

Then they really need to limit capacity and take away everything that gets large gatherings. Fireworks, parades have to be a no go.

We had a good discussion about this about 15 pages ago. First of all, that is something Universal is considering and I am making the assumption that WDW has also considered it. But here are the issues:

1. They would need other modifications until this is ready. The current COVID test takes at least 45 minutes to come back, so we are NOT at that 15 minutes yet, although we may be in the future.

2. And it has a 20% false negative rate. Which means, it misses COVID in about 20% of those tested that are positive, so some may still be coming with COVID into the parks.

3. And they need to ask if people are willing to do this because we've seen how guests respond to any modifications. The current test takes a swab up your nose. It feels like you have put a bunch of spicy wasabi up there. I can just imagine the cries in this forum of "my 3-year old will not be able to have this swab done."

4. There's also logistical issues - when and where would this be done? When they enter the Disney bubble? Outside the parks? And if someone is positive, what do they do then?

So, I actually do not think testing will be one of the modifications in place when they reopen.

Honestly, I would see Disney going outside the US to get the test kits since this is not truly a medical diagnostic. I wouldn't think it would fall under the restrictions of the CDC so they could use whatever test they want. I saw a report on CNN where I think South Korea has developed a test that is a prick of the finger and tells within a few minutes if you are negative, positive or have the antibodies. If that test proves to be fairly accurate then I could see them sourcing the tests from them. There could still be a percentage of false negative results if the test is not a CDC test though. (There is always a trade off.)

But Disney could enforce what they want to as a private location - I mean, in NY we are requred to wear face coverings and I was at the grocery store and they post signs that they will escort people out who aren't wearing face coverings for example. Now, they were being pretty lax as to what constitutes a face covering but if Disney / health officials / politicians /etc feel it is needed to protect their guests (and avoid law suits) they can enforce it

Posters are talking about liability waivers and even some kind of governmental policy (law?) offering some kind of business immunity from lawsuits.

I wonder how valid those restrictions on lawsuits will be if Disney doesn't enforce their safety rules.

In my opinion none of that needs to go. People just need to use common sense and partake in healthy habits.

They didn’t offer anything huge for March/April guests. It was a nice gesture but not that great.

It’s a discount they historically offer frequently, it requires a purchase some guests don’t need (AP or already held tickets), and it was basically summer only meaning you had to gamble on whatever the world looked like as well as your own ability to get there.

Plus it really costs them a lot less than any other discount.
