Rumor about “modified experiences” when Disney reopens (read 1st post for potential modifications being considered)

My point was they don't need the DO NOT STAND HERE stickers at all. They are confusing to people who are used to STAND HERE indicators, not the opposite of what they should be doing.
I truly hope that anyone standing on these squares does so because they are being simply unobservant or momentarily preoccupied more than being actually confused. A red circle and slash around something is a very well-know symbol for not doing something. The signs are huge, so one can definitely see that symbol, and as a back-up, they do have the directions written on them as well. :)

What folks forget about when they say that they don't care if certain items aren't being offered is that those items take a LOT of folks out of the equation when you are trying to do the things that you DO still care about. For example, if you normally plan to skip a parade or fireworks show to enjoy rides with lower wait times you can forget about that. Now you are competing with everyone else because those items that would have occupied other park attendees are not there.
Unless those closed events are keeping enough people away that even without them, lines are still shorter.

we have a lot of unknowns that will make that knowledge uncertain for several weeks after they open though. Obviously we’ll know before they open what will remain closed, but we won’t know how many peoplewill show up as a result to know whether or not lines will be longer

But if there is anything I have seen at wdw more than most places is unobservant ppl 😔.

Let's talk about this over whether we SHOULD wear masks or whether people WILL wear masks or if those people should be dragged out kicking and screaming.

To me, even if it is "for safety", if Disney cuts their offerings and charging the same price, this doesn't seem fair. Though I am sure there are plenty that will still pay the prices (because the things cut aren't things they normally do), but that is the main reason I won't be going mid-June even if they are open: I suspect that a ton of things will be closed and things will be just that much more inconvenient for "safety".

I know they won't, but Disney would have to offer me essentially free tickets to the theme parks to keep my June (or even if I had a July one) resort vacation. I'll gladly pay my Disney resort price and deal with longer lines (for temp checks), closed attractions (even closed parks/restaurants) if I get in the parks for free for the days I am there. I will still spend a ton of money on food and souvenirs while I am there and would go a long way to boost people's confidence in coming back to the parks.

But heck, they may not need to do that. There may be tons of people lining up to pay "pre-March" prices for a more inconvenient, and restricted experience with one of the bonuses hopefully being WAY less crowds. And that's fine .. they have put a different value on different things. I just hope they don't come away disappointed, expecting a "near normal" Disney vacation and it is anything but.

That is why I am just waiting .. waiting to see if my reservation is just canceled and if not .. waiting to see how restrictive these safety measures are and how long they will be in place and if Disney offers any discounts/promotions to make up for it.

We all make value decisions when spending our money and there IS a tipping point of value, inconvenience, restrictions and price. It just may not be "worth" it to go to Disney for while (except maybe locals) until things are closer to normal (still some safety procedures, but everything running as it was).
We spend a lot when we go to Disney and I'm sure I would not keep an upcoming trip because I'd rather save the money for a "full" experience even if that means waiting 2 years. But there are tons of AP holders and Disney fanatics who will, and they may or may not be disappointed but I doubt they will stop being Disney fanatics because of it because this isn't Disney's fault.
I am, however, an AP holder at UO, and I'm heading down there this late summer or fall if it is open. Very low additional investment of my money so it's ok if the experience isn't up to par. And remember it's not like the options are 1) modified Disney experience and 2) normal experience everywhere else. EVERYWHERE is going to be different for at least the next 6-9 months.

I totally agree. But when the parks first open I think most people will be going knowing that there are going to be a lot of changes and they will probably be more actively looking for those changes, which should help. Plus, there will be cast members there whose one job is to make sure people are following the safety measures. :) And they are having those recorded reminders playing as well. I know some folks seem to think those reminders indicate fear, but to me they are just that---reminders. For the unobservant or forgetful folks. ;)

What folks forget about when they say that they don't care if certain items aren't being offered is that those items take a LOT of folks out of the equation when you are trying to do the things that you DO still care about. I do take that in to account, and I never skip anything to take advantage of ride wait times, I just don't feel like I need to take time out of my trip to do those things. I'm usually not even in MK for the parade anymore, we come in the morning and leave shortly after lunch, go back to our room and then go back to a park in the late afternoon/evening. There will be a lowered park capacity for a while so I'm not too concerned about it. Now, if they were still letting 50k+ in to the park daily, that would be impactful.

One of the topics that I think bears more thought (not masks) is value for your dollar, its been touched on but not nearly examined enough. This modified experience is essentially like doubling the price of a park ticket when you consider all the takeaways.

I want to spend my money at Disney, that's why I have DVC, however no interactions, fireworks, parades have been replaced with avoiding people like they have the plague. Isn't that the mantra...assume everyo

Agreed plus they are removing coffee makers, and kitchen items for DVC members plates , cups, silverware. Paper menus at restaurants and more plastic silverware and platics cups at sit down places.

Disney can't really charge less because their operating expenses when opened will actually be more.

I think it's best to go in 2021 when things are hopefully more normal. You will be paying so much for a partial experience. Plus they can't have park hopping if only one park is open to start. Even if they open more than one park as someone mentioned (down try road) they likely won't allow park hopping for a while. Your paying full price for half the experience Imho

Not very magical to have to spread your cheeks at the TTC...

I think the scanner will have to suffice!
True, it just makes me feel frustrated though that so many of these policies exclude our family from going when we aren't sick and likely already have immunity. Especially since I'm tired and worn out being a Frontline worker. I'm not sure there is a solution but I am disappointed we can't go to Disney for the foreseeable future and I have to explain it to the kids.

It’s counter intuitive for them to adjust prices to reflect decreased offerings in the parks to entice more people to come if there is still a need for decreased offerings.

I agree the rumoured cuts make it harder to find value in the prices, but that might be appealing to Disney at this stage.

I am not familiar with this. Will you please explain what this is/was? Thanks!
The folks that had June trips had barely any availability of FastPasses a 60-67 days. Not only the Tier 1 headliners were difficult to get, but many, many, many Tier 2's were not available until the afternoon, etc. It led many to speculate that there were reasons for the FPs being unavailable, besides being busy (it was noted by many that availability was worse than Christmas, Spring Break, etc.). For example, that FPs would not be happening when they reopened and instead virtual queues would be used. Or that many parks would be closed. We don't know yet, but the lack of FP availability in June suggests that the number of FPs allocated in June was much lower than it had been before the closures. We don't know why, but it's not just because they would have been "busy."

The living in fear comment was made b/c a pp said this is what NOT living in fear looks like referring to the safety announcement being on loop. Constantly reminding ppl that they may be in danger, still seems like living in fear imo. It’s not the safety measures that we were discussing the “warnings”.

I think the announcement on a loop is more of a CYA measure. By having the instructions presented both visually and orally, they've covered their bases and no one can claim they didn't know what they were supposed to do. Like another PP mentioned, it probably would have been more fun if they had used some of their IP in the announcements and signage. It will be interesting to see how this evolves as time goes on.

I've already seen pictures from DS this morning of people standing on the stickers. I think you are right - we are mostly used to being told where to stand, not where not to stand. I think it would have been fun to incorporate the characters happily telling people where to stand. I think kids would respond better to something like that as well.

That would be a good idea. "hi.. this is micky mouse. enjoy your day here at disney springs but remember..."
Yes! I keep repeating that this is Disney. They can find a way to get guests (adults and kids) to comply with the safety measures if they use some of their imagineering. I *love* the idea of using Mickey's voice for the safety reminders.

I've also pictured them making a video that demonstrates the safety features by Mickey and Goofy. Like Goofy not putting on his mask correctly and Mickey showing him how his covers his nose and mouth. Or, Goofy being Goofy and not following the social distance markers and Mickey showing Goofy where to stand.

I also see them making the washing and sanitizing stations more themed. I mean, this is the company that themed the Tangled bathrooms like an attraction. They can make those sanitation pumps be Disney-esque.

This would be a good option to add to the Magical Express arrival videos, and to the resort TV channels. I could also see them adding a mask short like this to Disney+ or the Disney channel programming, or even leading in to the Magical World of Disney airings that are starting back.
