Rumor about “modified experiences” when Disney reopens (read 1st post for potential modifications being considered)

True, but I see a guest refilling station as a much more complicated system they're going to have to figure out. It's one of the highest potential cross contamination points, and allowing guests to use the same spigot without any middle ground or specific cleaning before/after seems like a recipe for disaster. I dont doubt they'll have other solutions figured out, but I just dont see guests filling their own cups unsupervised (at least) is going to happen any time soon.
I admit I haven't been to Disney in about 18 months, but at Universal the spigots are pretty far away from the cup and surrounded by a plastic shield thingie. I'd have to work hard to get my germy hands up in there. I'd MUCH prefer use a Freestyle-type machine than a CM who has been handing cups to thousands of guests. I do agree that we would need a CM to stand nearby to remind people to wash their hands before and after using the machines because they are touching the buttons, at least for a while.

I don't think you understand how the resort refilling stations work. There is almost zero chance of cross-contamination, and that drops even further if you wash your hands and wipe the bottom of your cup (the only part of the cup that touches anything while refilling).
I mean, I do understand how they work, and I do understand hand washing procedures. I dont think Disney should rely on guests to wipe down their cups to refill them though, and I don't trust fellow guests to take the time to do that. It is hard enough to convince folks to follow more important rules on sanitation. If there's a CM there helping guests use it, I think that makes total sense, but otherwise I'd have a hard time believing most people would actually fully sanitize their cup before setting it down. Especially as cups are something that comes in direct contact with your mouth. Most restaurants that are open and typically allow guests to self serve beverages no longer do that, and will have an employee get the drink for you, because of this very issue.

It's odd they are just now implementing this, months later. My DH's workplace has had this in place since mid-March and just dropped them as of today. Employees are free to vacation domestically wherever they'd like, with no restrictions upon returning.
I think it makes more sense now because 1) businesses are trying to open up and don't want a cluster shutting their business back down again and 2) people are allowed to travel now that stay at home restrictions are being lifted. There is no point to travel restrictions in place when the government has already done it for you.

No, you don't understand how they work. I give up.

I just looked at the opening plans for Holiday World, which is a small theme park in Indiana. They have always included free soft drinks as part of their admission. They say that they are still finalizing plans with the health department and the National Restaurant Association. At this time they are saying is if self-serve stations are not doable, they will have team members pour drinks.

They plan to open on June 17 and have their waterpark open by July 4.

I will say, I think having CMs hand out drinks or cups would be more sanitary than any guest. Disney is training them in the correct sanitation methods.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see more workplaces adopt those kind of quarantine policies as things open back up even if governments are not, especially in areas that have not been hit as hard. Nobody wants a huge chunk of their staff to get sick at once and/or potentially have to temporarily shut down.
Mine had this requirement for international travel for most of February and March. We were almost all sent to work from home by March 16 but in that last week before closing offices they started asking people who had traveled domestically to report their travel for tracking/tracing purposes though we did not have to isolate. Our current policy is there is no business travel of any kind and won't be for the foreseeable future and all personal travel is discouraged. Since we are mostly all working from home we obviously don't have to self isolate if we do travel right now. And while I don't expect to be back in the office with any regularity until the end of summer at the earliest I do think we'll have the 14 day self isolation rule in place once we are back.

Okay, I mean i do understand how they work, I'm not sure you understand how germs work or the purpose of most of things we impliment to reduse risk of infection. In your hypothetical, every guest behaves perfectly and only sets down clean cups, and the ones who refill also wipe down their cups when they are done refilling. I don't think that hypothetical is realistic, and that Disney will likely have to either have someone help guests (even just verbally/watching) clean their cups and hands off before touching the machine, if not figure out a different system. I know you dont think that is the case, and that is fine, but I think it's an entirely reasonable concern to have. It's okay to disagree, and neither of us are going to make the final decision.

No one was literally banned from traveling before, it was just highly discouraged.

I work for the state, they can basically do whatever they want, even if it is against the law for the non state workers. I think they put it into effect right now, specifically, because of the holiday weekend.

It isn't absurd. The majority of employers around here implemented something similar months ago.
They just implemented it. Most of the country is getting of rid of these requirements, others have had them for the last couple months. That’s why I hold fast in my assessment it’s absurd. Something tells me those folks families will vacay without them- except for all those who lie. Yeah boss, I’m totally vacationing here in Arkansas this summer... 🤣

I don't know how long they would consider keeping Epcot closed but our trip is planned for December and no Epcot is a deal-breaker for us. No holiday decorations, Festival, or CP is the main reason I plan to go this time of year.

Agreed - when I first saw them in posts for SDL I completely thought they were "Stand here" markers... I didn't even process the giant "no" symbol over the footprints :rotfl:
It's also just nonsensical. Ok so I can't stand on the square. Can I stand to the left or right of the square? Only in front or back of the square? The square doesn't say. And it's colored white which means nothing to Americans. The squares should be RED with GREEN circles in between where people should stand. Or, like literally every other business, skip the squares entirely and just direct people where to stand. Oy.

I wouldn't risk my career for a vacation.
