Rum in St. Martins

For a different souvenier from St. Martins, go in one of the liquor stores in that little strip mall near the docks and ask for a bottle of rum that the locals would buy/drink. The guy sold me a couple big bottles of rum for about $3. each. I gave one to a friend who makes a lot of tropical type drinks in the summer and she said it was the best rum she'd ever drank. I had a 2nd bottle I gave away and that person said the same thing. The brand was bottled right there in St. Martins and both people I gave it to have never seen it for sale here in the states - they've looked.
