Is the alcohol cooked out? I would love to take some back for my co-workers but I work for a company that specifically prohibits drinking at even lunch functions and frankly I wouldn't want to test the waters with a Rum Cake in these trying economic times. I need to work to support my Disney habit.;)

Those cakes are thorougly soaked in alchohol. I don't think they even add alchohol to the batter. It's all added after they are baked. Lol, there's a reason they have a six month shelf life.

Gotcha!

Note to self. Do not give Rum Cakes to co-workers on company time.

And besides... They taste YUCKY!!! They offer free samples in the gift shops in Nassau. If you are feeling brave, give them a try. I am sure some one here on the boards will say they like them. I for one do NOT!!!

I am one of those crazy people who really like rum cake!" RUM CAKES ARE YUM YUM."

I'm a rum cake loving crazy too!!
And we've actually eaten them in my office, although I strongly suspect we were probably not supposed to. ;)
They have sampler packs with three different flavored mini cakes that are delicious.

Oooh..those rum cakes from tortuga rum factory...delicious.

We haven't found a loser in the bunch yet. You can order them online..so you don't have to carry them home with you.

I second that webray, I can still taste those tortuga rum cakes...delicious

Rum cakes, vanilla....it's going to be a food shopping trip!

How much are rum cakes? I like the sound of the sampler pack. I'm trying to budget spending money.

Love the rum cakes in Georgetown. Coffee in ocho Rios, Vanillia in Cozumel. Am I leaving anything out?

I too love them. I got the little one in the tin and used the tin for the disney change fund. All loose change at the end of the day goes in there. However I just got so used to seeing the tin that I forgot about the cake. I will be getting the large one on this trip. YUMMY! But not for kids because I could definatly taste the rum.

According to www.tortugarums.com :
Each cake is individually hand glazed then vacuum packed, ensuring a shelf life of 6 months, or indefinitely if refrigerated or frozen.

Shelf life has never been an issue at my house... they just don't hang around that long.

They have a 6 month shelf life in their original packaging. They are great - our favorites are original and rum & raisin.
