Ruling in Dover ID Case

Bicker, ITA

There have been hundreds of widely accepted ID theories over the centuries, with the majority of them not being PROVEN false, but being rejected as a matter of faith. That is, if you wanted to be (or were forced to be) a Christian, Jew, etc you could no longer (openly) believe certain things, and could be killed for believing them. I'm sure the people who believed Chronus created the world were not presented with "proof" that things didn't happen that way.

If one truly believes that God created everything AND nothing He created evolved or changed, how do you explain mutations? I can point them out to you, both at a microscopic and macroscopic level. In the middle ages, visible ones would be explained as punishment for your sins, and no one could prove they weren't. Heck, no one can PROVE that they aren't now, and are still considered a sign of human sin in some societies.

How do you explain the existance of vestigal organs in humans? How do you explain the FACT that people in the US are getting taller, with larger feet, as a group? I'm not talking about specific causes, such as interbreeding with taller groups, better diet, etc but the FACT itself that it happens at all? How can our (humankind) physical appearance change if we were ALL created exactly the same in the begining, AND we could not evolve?

Therefore, I believe that the ability to evolve is also part of ID. BUT, I would no more insist that ID be discussed in PUBLIC school than I would insist that Evolution be discussed in church. And any US 9th grader (which is when the issue of ID was to be mentioned) who hasn't heard something about the Judeo-Christian theory of ID has been living in an alternate universe.

For me, the HUGE issue is that scientific theory can be changed based on new evidence that is discovered. I don't see any room for new ideas with ID. I want my children to understand that no one KNOWS how we came to be. I think science class should teach the evolution theory and leave the idea of a "higher intelegence" to church. I really don't understand why this is being brought up for public schools. If I wanted my children to learn about an intelegent higher power I would enroll them in a private religious school and/or take them to worship where I agreed with the teachings.

So can ID, or at least my definition of it. The only thing I really believe different than evolutionists is that God made the world, it was not an accident.
