Rules for use of existing Disigns?

Hi,
I am new to this forum and have spent a few days looking at all the wonderful artwork and reading the guidelines but I would like some clarification on the etiquette of using a disign.

If I wanted to use a disign without any changes should I request permission of the designer or is it generally assumed that such use is OK? Normally I would of course ask but in the case of these huge boards I hate to add to the email if it is not needed or not welcome.

I assume that changing someone's design requires permission?

Sorry if these seem like dumb questions but amongst all the detailed rules about how to ask a disigner to modify or create a disign there did not seem to be any posted rules for use of unmodified disigns or modification of disigns.

Just my opinion,,not a rule.
I do not change past DISigners stuff as a courtesy.
I do not want my stuff changed or redone.

1. I would ask the original DISigner first if they mind having their stuff used.
Most past Disigners have left blanks for people to personalize NOT so someone starts a new thread using someone else's disigns as their own.

2.Start a new thread and ask for a new DISign to be made.

3. Attempt to learn how to change or personalize it yourself.

For the most part I don't personalize. If you want to personalize it go right ahead, I don't need to be asked. If it comes out good and you want to show it I'd love to see it but I don't need to. I put my DISigns out there and if someone wants to use them feel free. Other than personalization I would hope no one would modify them but I have no control over that. As long as they don't claim it as their own.

Out of respect for the original artist I do not modify others DISigns. I might try to do something "in the flavor of" but more likely I'll come up with my own DISign.

If I have posted a DISign to Photobucket then I allow it to be used, without permission, as is.....no changes.

I prefer to personalize myself but if someone does ask I will usually give the go ahead for them to do it. In this case please do ask. Exception is simple Mickey heads that I encourage DISers to download a font they like and try to personalize themselves.

I also do not personalize other DISigners "stuff". If that DISigner is long gone I may reproduce a style as long as it is something simple and not too clearly their own unique style. However, I have so many of my own DISigns that I rarely do any reproductions....and I mean very rarely.
