Hi there, I am planning an October 2010 trip. 2BR at AKL. I have enough points to cover this. My DF may join us in a studio. I would need to borrow from 2011 to book this.

Should DF decide in July 2010 that she can't go (she can be a bit flakey), can I return the borrowed points to 2011 or am I stuck with them in 2010?

I have a Feb UY so we would not yet be within my 4 month window.

Any advice you can give would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

You can't return the borrowed points, but you could bank an identical number of the 2010 points into your 2011 year. This would be close to the same effect, although you couldn't perform a second banking or borrowing with those points at a later date.

As PP said, once you borrow the points, you will have to use them by the end of the UY they are borrowed in to.

However, if you end up canceling the studio, just tell MS to use the borrowed points for your 2 BR and then take the 2010 points you used for those and bank them back into 2011.

If you want to avoid having to try to get MS to reallocate your points if the reservation is cancelled it might be easier to make the studio reservation first (with all 2010 points) and then make the 2BR reservation with a combination of 2010 points and borrowed 2011 points. Just be sure if you are doing it all in one phone call that you confirm that it was done correctly before you hang up.
