Rudolph lyrics....

I grew up in CA in the 80's and this is how I learned it.

Rudolph, the red-nosed reindeer Reindeer
had a very shiny nose.
And if you ever saw it, saw it
you would even say it glows. like a lightbulb

All of the other reindeer reindeer
used to laugh and call him names. like pinocchio
They never let poor Rudolph Rudolph
join in any reindeer games. like monopoly

Then one foggy Christmas Eve
Santa came to say:
"Rudolph with your nose so bright,
won't you guide my sleigh tonight?"

Then all the reindeer loved him loved him
as they shouted out with glee, Yippy!
Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer, reindeer
you'll go down in history! like George Washington

Rudolph, the red-nosed reindeer
had a very shiny nose. (like a light bulb)
And if you ever saw him,
you would even say it glows.

All of the other reindeer
used to laugh and call him names. like Pinocchio
They never let poor Rudolph
join in any reindeer games. like Monopoly
Then one foggy Christmas Eve
Santa came to say: Ho Ho Ho
"Rudolph with your nose so bright,
won't you guide my sleigh tonight?"

Then all the reindeer loved him
as they shouted out with glee, Yippee
Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer,
you'll go down in history! like Columbus

Rudolph, the red-nosed reindeer

I never heard it sang that way until we were at MVMCP in 2001. We always sang it with just the original words.

This thread is very timely! My DD and I were arguing on the way to school Friday whether it was Columbus (which I learned) or George Washington (which she learned). Now I know there are good arguments for each! :rotfl2:

Wow, I'm singing it in my head and I can't figure out how Columbus fits. We've always sung it as George Washington and Columbus sounds so wrong, lol. I suppose GW sounds wrong to the others.

I wanted to put in what I say before reading other responses. I think it's generational. My kids always look at me like :confused3 when I sing my version. :rotfl:

(And yes, the first like a light bulb never has made any sense to me either.)

I'm so glad I saw a few other people with "like toothpaste" because when I first started reading and saw all the "yipee", I thought I was going crazy! And it's like Columbus here, too.

I grew up with parents who were in the Air Force so we moved a lot. SO, I have actually heard it just about every single way mentioned here. I don't think there is a right way and they are all fine. That being said, now that I'm grown, I prefer it with just the original words.

It will be interesting to see how my kids learn it as they get older though. I didn't grow up in this state so I'm not sure how they say it here. Dh was raised here but says he can't remember now.
