Rude resort security guards?

We're FL residents, so we we often go just to the resorts for dinner reservations, etc. We also like staying at the various resorts and have stayed at deluxe, moderate and value. Most of the time, the guards are very nice and happy and friendly. The ones at the Boardwalk/Yachtclub area, are alot more strict and stern if you dont have hotel reservations. Probably because many people may try to park there to get free parking/transportation/walk to Epcot, etc. I have annual pass and the rest of my family seasonal, so we don't go during summer/peak season at all. I suspect the security guards just get more stressed during the busy season, can't say I blame them there! But I'd say usually they are nice, just have your id out as you approach the gate if you are going to a resort for dinner at which you aren't staying, and if you get someone crabby, in most cases, why make it a big deal, the sooner you get over it, the sooner you'll feel better.

I never had a problem with any of the guards at the resorts. When I pulled into the GF, I told the guard I was checking in. She asked for ID. She was very friendly and gave me my parking pass. For the rest of trip, I pulled up to the gate and when they saw my parking pass they let me in. I always parked in the self park lot but I would pull up to the main building to drop off the family. To get to the self parking lot at the GF, you don't even have to go by the guard. You just needed your KTTW to open the gate.

Not only does Resort Security at the gates to the resorts have to screen people during an entry they do lots more that you don't see. When there is trouble-like an unruly guest upsetting my kids at the pool or playgrounds several Security units appear out of nowhere. The guy was drunk or on something. My kids didn't need to see and hear that. I'm on VACATION!!They took the guy away. Now my kids and wife were safe. Fellow guests do cause trouble. Security these days is neccessary to ensure safety of guests and employees that work there. That's pretty cool if you really think about it. Car repo guys will reposses at any location-but Dis Security keeps them away. Unscrupulous unlicensed cabs, pan handlers, former angry spouses, and those that prey on tourists are kept at bay and wisked away. You can assume that they have weapons, that high technology is utilized to screen people and vehicles. I see the cameras almost everywhere I go there. Why don't you? Why do some guests ridicule Security as barney's or min wagers or rent a cops? Why are you abusive to the guards ? Can't you say a kind word to them? You are on Vacation why start trouble at the security gate or at bag check areas. These people in security ARE protecting the guests that legitimately belong in the resort. How many times have you gone to the pool and found that there a NO chairs for you because of local visitors are using them? I've seen security and managers remove those squaters and I suspect they were trespassed. That means that they can no longer (FOREVER) visit any Disney property -can not come with their kids or grandkids, or eat there or hotel there or see the fireworks or shop at The Village Marketplace(Downtown Disney) attend special events Very Merry Christmas, Camp at the best campground ever= Ft Wilderness. I see security helping me getting to my resort destination due to a vehicle accident or a stalled broken down vacationer trying to get to the Happiest Place on Earth. They do so much-One would only see if they looked. The reason I believe some of these complainers in this Forum say security is rude is because they do not really comprehend the state of the world affairs vs the American customs of freedom. Things have changed and I believe the complainers have a faulty recall of events, had a bad day of travel to Orlando or are resentful of the changes security has had to take. In my opinion, to ridicule security with derogatory names, is a reflection of the person making the claim. I know that I'm to present a photo ID- not just show it. There is a difference ! Have you ever seen a waitress show you the bill ? No! They present the bill !!!!. Every Resort has the same message on signs "No Soliciting", "Please Present PhotoID" Why do people NOT thank a guard for asking to see the ID, or other employee for other assistance. Hey, I had a bad case of love bugs on my car. A guard told me how and where I could get them off. Who does that? I don't have problems with any security. Why do you ? Think about it for a moment. Thank You.

Most of the security in Disney comes across that way. They are very aloof and unfriendly. I do not think it is acceptable, but there seems to be an attitude that comes with that job in general. (like TSA) For the most part, they are there to be alert and watch what is happening, they don't care about being nice....they are not trained to be nice, they are trained to be security.

Our rude encounter was in the resort. Last November, I splurged on getting a CR concierge level room. Our next to last day was our designated sleep in day. At 7, there's banging on the door. I groggily answer it and there's the security guard. He said, " The ambulance is on its way." For a second I panicked thinking my daughter or niece had been hurt. I looked toward their bed and they are staying at us sleepily. I asked if they called for an ambulance and they said no. The security guard heard them, then said, " Well, it's on the way." He turned around and stomped off.
A bit later we went to the lounge for breakfast since we were now awake. I asked the CM about the ambulance and he said, " How did you know about that?" Turns out the people who called were all the way on the opposite end of the floor and across the concourse from us. Neither the guard nor the CM offered an apology. That did not sit right with me, so I found a manager and complained. We were comped that night. If either the guard or the CM had offered an apology, it would have ended at that point and I would not have complained to the manager.
Mistakes happen. When they do, an "I'm sorry." should follow.

I have been going to WDW since I moved to Florida in 1999, including 100+ total visits, along with 30+ overnight stays of varying length, and I have never gotten that impression at all. What one person considers aloof, another may see as being professional. And I've had many security people there smile and wish me a magical day.:thumbsup2

Now the TSA... that's another story.

Was not sure where to post this, but it has been bothering me since returing from our latest vacation at WDW, and I wanted to know if anyone else has run into this.

It seems as though we ran into the rudest, "un-magical" security folks at our recent visit to the world, across multiple areas. It started when we pulled into our resort, CSR, and didn't really end the whole trip. I'm not talking about gate\park security, or anyone in the parks, but rather resort security.

This was our first trip driving, and the guard at CSR acted more like a drill instructor telling my family where to go when I first pulled up to the gate. No biggie, it was hot, he was standing in a little shack. The trend continued however when we drove over to the Boardwalk\Beach\Yacht club area for dinner that night. THe CM at our resort told us we could use our key card at any resorts parking area to get into the lots. Again, our first time driving, so we didn't know any better. I pulled up, inserted card at the BC area, and it didn't work. The guard immediately came over, and began to give us a "lesson" as to why, and pretty much gave us the feeling that we should have known better, and since 9/11 they made changes, and just deal with it. We were like, uh, OK, another real happy guy here. Mind you, I don't mind being told the rules at all, however, I do mind being spoken to like a 10 year old who has just broken a neighbors window playing baseball, rather than someone staying at a Disney resort, LOL.

The trend continued at nearly every resort we drove to. We had a LOT of dinner reservations at different resorts, so driving made it easier. Same type of thing happened at the GF. We were promply told, again, in a drill insctructor like fashion, that we had to park in the self parking area, and also told we were not to use the resort parking lots to get to the parks.

OK, we are a family of 4, two adults, two kids age 7 years and 8 months. I don't think we looked like terrorists, and we were paying, Disney resort and park guests. (Have been MANY times for the past years). This type of treatment, really really bothered me. It made me uncomfortable, and definitely took some magic away.

The few incidents I list above were not the only one's, and they may not seem like a big deal, it was just a bit frustrating. Is this the norm with these guys when dealing with people in cars, or did I just hit a bunch of grumpy, hot, rent a cops? (I mean no disrespect to anyone working in the industry).

I'm not normally one to write and complain, but I'm really thinking about it over this, although I'm not sure who the guards actually work for, i.e., Disney, and outside company, etc. etc.

Thanks for listending to the ramble........

No offense, but it sounds like you just don't like being told what to do. I have always been given very explicit directions on where to park, etc at the resorts....the guards need to do that, or it would be chaos. You yourself said that you have never driven resort to resort, so if they didn't tell you where to park, how would you know.

Sorry, chock this up to, "dont' tell me what to do, I paid a lot of money to stay here...."

I do have to wonder why someone chose this particular thread to post their first ever post on??? You all do realize this thread is nearly two years old, right???

and it's always done by a newbie.

I'd like to know how they go back and find them. It seems like I can never find a specific old thread if I'm looking for one.:rotfl: Where's the one about the can of corn or the grandma that told her hilarious story about losing her swimsuit on one of the water park rides.:rotfl::rotfl:

Wow I guess we have been lucky as well! As far as that incredibly rude guard at the Poly I would have gotten her name and reported her to the front desk of the Poly asking for a manager! There is no sense in that rudeness!

I understand there are alot of ppl that try and go around the rules but wow!

They are also taking a photo of your license plate while you are showing your drivers license so they know who is entering the resort.

Wow, I didn't know that. Interesting, but it makes sense from a security standpoint.

I've never encountered a rude security guard at WDW. That doesn't mean that they aren't out there, but I've been lucky enough to have not experienced rudeness from them.

Security guards are there for one purpose.
Security and not to discus anything with you. Just follow up what they tell you.
Those guards are not a discussion person or the would be called "discussants":lmao:

Besides if they had to answer and go into every complaint and discus everything there would be a huge meltdown on traffic. The roads would be totally blocked off by people trying to pass the guards.

And than we could read the complaint here :"why are all guards so friendly and taking hours to let one car pass"? :rotfl2:

You better talk to Paul, the security guard at the Contemporary parking lot entrance. He and I had a long discussion about total knee replacement last week when we drove over there to have breakfast at Chef Mickey's. I was in my driver's seat and he was at my window. My husband was in our other car behind me (we had 11 of us to dine) and was wondering what was taking so long.

Paul was very nice and I enjoyed talking with him.

:rotfl2: or would you find it acceptable if you had to wait for everyone making small talk to Paul?

Probably a bored security guard checking out her new iPhone . . .

Anyone that thinks Disney security at the park entry is effective never saw the results of a bicycle bomb in Nam! :scared1:

I've always had very pleasant interactions with the security people. All CMs at WDW, from front desk CMs to attraction CMs to security CMs, are expected to be pleasant and welcoming. Period.

Um....and what does this thread have to do with park entry??? Sure you're not getting confused with the diaper bag thread???

We did to but talking to security people about operations or whatever is just uncalled for.
There will always cars behind you waiting to pass the security also and they have no desire to wait until I finished my small take about labor pains or ingrown toenails.:lmao:

When we arrive at the guard shag he comes out,I have our reservation paperwork ready in my hands. He looks at our number, looks than on his list and calls the resorts and thats it.

We arrived in Mai while the roads were totally blocked by people getting to the marathon. Could you imagen what would happen if thousands of people want to get into a discussion whit the guards?

Sorry but please say a nice hello, show your reservations number and move on.
