I know this is minor but I'm peeved!

We've had two weeks of snow. Snow, snow, snow. Over 3 feet of the flaming stuff and this is not a country that gets much snow so we don't cope well with it! :rotfl:

There's been no rubbish collection since it started and today my neighbour decided to dump her three large bins in the middle of the road directly opposite my drive, blocking my car in, to wait for them to be collected some day - possibly in May at this rate!

I couldn't get out this morning and she wasn't home so I moved them onto the path outside her house (not blocking anything!). When I then went to go out later, I found she'd moved them back to the road blocking me. She still wasn't home so I moved them again, went out and then tried to keep an eye out for her. An hour or so later she was back and I saw her moving the bins BACK to the road so I said that she was blocking my car and could she please not put her bins there.

Phhht. I got a shrug and a "We all have to live" and much waving of hands as she refused to move her bins.

So I've dug a hole in the snow on the path for her to put her precious bins.

The biggest joke is that she's obsessive about no one parking near her double drive (which is legal, just makes it a bit more difficult for her reversing out) and for the past 5 years I've made sure none of our vistors park there. You'd think she'd be more considerate!

I don't like it when people are rude out of the blue! It upsets me!

I would have thrown them into the middle of her yard. You are a very good neighbor.

You are nice because I would have moved them wiht my car as close to her yard as possible. that is just rude for her to do that with all that snow you have. she knows they are going to come out and collect trash until the snow is gone.

I would be miffed too!

I live right downtown in my city. I have the neighbors from, you know where. Now, mind you, I have lived in my house 32 years. They just moved in 1 1/2 years ago. Trash pick up day is Monday here. Their garbage cans are still at the curb. I have been busy this week shoveling my sidwalk. Of course, they don't shovel theirs and this is a household of 4 able bodied adult sons living with their mom. So, what do they do? They decide to park their car in front of my house because there is a clear path for them to walk on!

I would have relocated them to another street, where she couldn't find them.

Oh, I must have really upset her because she's just sprayed grit & dirt all over our front lawn (or rather, on top on the snow covering the lawn  )! DH thinks I should go over and tell her how upset I am and say that I don't want to fall out with her, but I'm too much of a scaredy cat.

Been there before and have delt with exactly as DisneyBamaFan stated. Every time she stuck the bins/bags in our way, they got put smack dab in the middle of her yard or drive way.

For awhile it was a war of the wills - DH and I won the war. The battle that won it for us, was the time she put it in our way on her way out of town for two weeks, which we didn't know she was doing. We got home, saw them in our way, 3 days before the pick up date. We put both bins and 2 bags in the center of her yard. Three days later, we'd gotten enough snow, her bins were buried in her yard. They were still there, buried even deeper, when she got home. She had to snowblow a path to them and dig them out we had gotten so much snow.

After that, she snowblowed out a space on the other side of her driveway and put them there, out of our way.

Wow, she sounds crazy! I'm proud of you that you seem to have reeled the craziness in. If it was me, I would have poured all of her garbage over her lawn.

Yeah, I'd stop worrying about that. And when she complains about people parking in legal spots, I'd shrug and say "We all have to live!" :thumbsup2

In my opinion you get one courtesy move of the bins back to your own yard. After that they get dumped on the front steps... Ridiculous that this should be happening.

Maybe you should return the favor and put your bins where it's difficult for her to get out of her driveway and see how she likes it. Or next time you have company tell them they can park there

Yeah, I'm going to try to let it go, but I won't be asking people to not park in that space from now on. The more DH thinks about it, the more hurt he is - the whole covering our lawn with grit & dirt was a bit psycho and he's always considered us to be friends with them. You don't do that sort of thing to someone you like!

What in the world is wrong with people. She sounds crazy!

Well psycho neighbour came over this morning to have another go at me.

Seemingly it's fine to leave your bins in the middle of the road.

I had to go get my husband, at which point she scurried off. I'm going into hibernation now and hopefully won't see her again until spring!

OP -

This person doesn't care if she inconveniences others, she just doesn't want to be inconvenienced herself.

Have no further direct dealings with her. Do not answer the phone if she calls, do not engage her in any conversations, do not answer any e-mails/Facebook posts/etc., have your DH handle any and all contact. If she tries to engage you in some type of shouting/pissing match, just say "You'll have to speak to my husband" go get him and ignore her.

It's awful when neighbors don't get along.

agnes!

Thanks Agnes, that's good advice. I'm definitely going to stay away from her. I'm probably the most non-confrontational person you'll ever come across, hence my preference to just moan about it to complete strangers on a message board! :rotfl:

Do what we did to a neighboronce. He would not shovel his front and always park in a clear spot. We waited for the coldest night and then banked snow around his tires to hold water. Then we filled the area with water. Took him several hours to get out. He then parked his car in his garage.

One year we had a 20+ inch snow fall. All of us pitched in to have our alley plowed. That is except him. I was shoveling the back walk and I heard shoveling and the sound of a hose running. On checking there was the neighbor behind him shoveling snow in front of the garage door a few inches high, spraying a layer of water, letting it freeze, adding more snow, then spraying again. Eventually there was a pile about 4 feet high. Needless to say that guy pitched in after that.
