The only thing that even almost put me in a really bad mood at WDW was the time DH had the meltdown - but I'm in such a good mood at WDW nothing rattles me - so this is just a funny story.

I've never seen this one come up before - we had our Priority Seating stolen from us at Chef Mickey's! The CM said, "The Auntpollys, party of 4", and 4 other people said, "that's us!"

Luckily the CM actually told us who they were - so we got a good laugh out of it and they actually ended up providing us with some fun!

This happen to anyone else?

It's never happened to me, but it's always been a fear of mine, that someone will claim our reservation (at any restaurant, not just at WDW) and then my family gets stuck at the bottom of the waiting list. I get cranky and edgy when I'm hungry, if someone stole my reservation I'd be :furious:

No, but if that did happen to me then I would definately be speaking to the manager and getting a free meal out of it.

When we were taking a carriage ride at POR, some woman stepped between me and the driver as I was starting to check in and said she was next. (I had made a reservation for the ride 6 months prior) She tells the driver her name and hmmmm gee she doesn't seem to be on the list. Tells the driver some long story about how she made the reservation that day, blah, blah, blah. Driver tries to help her out, but no one has any information about it. And both carriages are booked for the night. I step up give her my name. Yep we're on the list!!! This woman starts going on and on about how her kids are so looking forward to this ride and how they are going to be so disappointed that they can't go. Meanwhile her kids are paying no attention, they're off running around in and out of the doors by check in. I honest to God think she was hoping I would give up my reservation!! The driver was very nice and called the other carriage, and told the woman that if the party for the other carriage didn't show up in 15 minutes that they could take that ride. That wasn't good enough, she wanted to go NOW!! Intimated that dh and I could take the next carriage. Driver says their (dh and I) reservation is with me, so I will be taking them. It was funny and kind of sad at the same time.

Oh no, we just wanted to make sure the people knew we knew who they were - they were definitely embarrassed! It wasn't people with kids or anything, or we would have shown mercy! ;)

It's never happened to us either, but I don't know if I'd expect a free meal out of it. If someone steps up and says they are the such-and-such party, how the heck is the hostess supposed to know? It's not like she would recognize them or anything.

Oh, yeah, the CMs were mortified - wasn't their fault! I was really surprised when they pointed out the fake Auntpolly table for 4 for us!

I agree...why would the restaurant need to give you a free meal? I'm sure they would just seat you at the next table of 4.

I think this is why they now give out the handheld beepers at a lot of restaurants to notify you when your table is available. I don't know if they do that at CM's though - but if I recall last time we were there we just waited on the line to the left and waited for our table???

OMG, I can't believe they did that! Wow. Glad that you at least called them on it. People are amazing.

(never happened to me and I can't say I have ever even thought about the possibility)

Pardon me because I'm sick today, but did the other people get your table or not? :confused3

ummmm, I didn't say they should....

They did seat us as quickly as they could, but Chef Mickey's is pretty busy and we didn't even realize that we'd been called until 20 minutes after our PS -- we'd been sitting there like fools for 1/2 hour before we realized there was a problem, since we got there 10 minutes early. We'd checked in too, just different people seated them.

Not the end of the world, just one of those, "wow, you really can't put anything past people; can you??" moments!

Yeah, they were happily (til they saw us) eating their meal when we got our table - which was very near theirs! :rotfl:

I am the same way. I'm normally a very laid back person. But when I'm hungry I get pretty edgy. If my resevation was stolen people would be hearing about it.

This happened at a local Applebees not terribly long ago. Me and DBF went for dinner, put our names on the list and waited in the little vestabule between the two sets of doors. About 15 minutes later a group of 4 teenagers put their names on the list then waited outside, on the other side of the windows. They were still waiting on 2 people to arrive. (They were talking loudly so we heard their whole converstation.) 3 minutes later a table of 4 was called and these kids were claiming they were that party. The hostess outside didn't know they were lying but thank goodness the hostess inside did. It was kinda funny to hear her gently scold them for trying to take someone elses spot. I'm pretty sure the real party of 4 was happy someone recognized the teens. I still don't get what the teens thought would happen if they did get seated then and the other two people arrived. :confused3

So what DID you do to make them realize you knew what they did?

I think Hillbeans was referring to EltonJohn's previous post.

You know, now I am wondering how may people will read this and use this 'tip' the next time they are down there without PSs, LOL.

Oh, just some really juvenile pointing and giggling (and you should have seen the looks on their face when they saw the CM point them out! I think the older woman almost choked on her mickey pancake!

Sorry about that Hillbeans, and , oh great! I've started a new crime spree!

There was a post--it must have been three years ago now--about a family who had their sold out Crystal Palace PS/ADR stolen. They had gone to check-in, and were told they had been seated a few minutes ago. IIR the story, someone without a PS had walked up, pointed at the screen and sid "thats us" and been seated.

I want to think the manager ended up tossing the people who "stole" the PS out and seating the people who were supposed to be eating there asap, which was still quite a bit later than when they were supposed to be eating.

Does anybody else remember that story, or is the person it happened to still around?

Anne

My cousin actually did this at a Cracker Barrel...

We were a group of 5 or 6 and we were on the list, but they hadn't called our name yet. Then they called some other family name "Smith Party of 6" like three times...obviously, they were no longer waiting (there is NO WAY they wouldn't have heard their name three times). So, when the hostess called them the 4th (and last) time, my cousin jumped up and said "We're them!"

We thought it was kinda funny.

No problem Auntpolly!

I'm sure people try and do this a lot more than people realize - and I think it's ironic you ended up sitting right near them after they tried to take your table!
