Rubber stamping in scrapbooking

Tiger926 said:
Bethany F - thanks so much for the awesome info and suggestions. I am finding that my pigment ink takes a long time to dry, but the scrapper/stamper store didn't tell me that it had to be heat set. How do you do this? I have an embossing gun?
yep, use the heat gun. You can heat set with or without embossing powder, its your choice.
There are several companies products I trust. In paper I dont hesitate to use things from EK Success, Chatterbox, Karen Foster, KI Memories, Mustard Moon, Seven Gypsies, Bazzill, National Cardstock, just to name a few.
I use Hermafix (nopw from EK Success) adhesives and EK Success (Zig) pens.
Creating Keepsakes magazine tests products and gives the ones that pass their 'seal of approval', so that is something else to look for.
CM is fine, they are a big company, but they are not the only game in town.
Stampin Up and CLose To My Heart are both reputable home sales companies that sell stamping and scrapping stuff.

roflmao laura, nice try in having the last word.... :) I myself have done absoutely no research about scrappin... I am going to do what I feel like doing, just like my mom did, her mom did, etc. We still have pictures from the great great's that they (gasp) glued into books and they are just fine. It's all a marketing scheme to get you to buy "their" product. Do whatever makes you comfortable, happy, etc. At the end of the day only you have to be happy with your scrapbooks, no-one else. And yes, I love mine. And they are lumpy, bumpy, and have all kinds of stuff in them from eyelets to bottle caps to ribbon and stamping. they make me happy. maggie

actually, I do have a question. if you are so concerned about the safety of your pictures... why scrap them at all? why not just put them in the page protector albums and call it a day? Just curious. maggie

BehanyF - Thanks again for the great info! Thanks also for the other product suggestions - I actually just bought a beautiful K & Company album, and our scrapping stores in town have beautiful selections of their papers as well, as for the other home sales companies that you mentioned, these aren't available in my city, and I don't know if they are available in other Canadian cities either. We are limited in this respect, but with the great selections at our LSS and CM, I am doing just fine.

crazyforpooh - I'm not trying to cause a disagreement or not (I'm not sure if this comment was directed at me or not), I'm just looking for info. As a teacher, I've been trained in research & acquisition of info, so I really take my scrappin seriously. I am quickly learning that people are very passionate about scrappin for a multitude of reasons, one of which is to judge and to put other people's styles down. This is not me at all - I would never do this, but it is my right to not do the same in my books if I am worried about the products used and since we have a limited product selection here, I figured the best place to get info is from all of you!

Thanks again for the info. Now that I better understand my inks, I feel confident to use them in my pages, Tiger

are you A TROLL tiger -
here to cause choas??
Because
1. how can you have limited selection and rave about your good scrap stores at the same
2. How can you do so much research for 7 weeks and not know that you need to heat to emboss!
These and other inconsistencies in your posts on these boards leave me to believe that you may be TRYING to cause problems on our otherwise harmonious little board here - we have all respected eachother here for years....

too funny patty, I think you have hit the nail on the head with the troll idea. Perhaps tiger926 you should try 2peas next? maggie

or maybe the AOL boards. They love a good CM debate ;)

"I have found that most of the people who badmouth CM products do tons of layouts without paying any big deal to the quality of products that they place in their books. I frequently hear stuff like, "Who cares if I have to reprint my photos, or redo a layout. At least I'm getting my books done!" To each his own, I guess! Honestly, CM products cost a little more money, but they are so worth it and I bet in the long run, those of us who use CM products will have spent less money on stuff since we aren't having to replace things as often."

I'm sorry but your comments on another thread made it seem like if we "the non CM people" aren't using CM then we don't care about our books or photos. WHich clearly isn't the case. I too have done a lot of research on the books I use. I did scrap with CM books but found they are limiting. I then bought a Mrs. Grossman book, not the best book in the long run. SO then I tried Scrap in a snap book. Loved loved loved the colors and the page protectors are fantastic. The album, not so great. Now I am using Forever yours I absolutely love them They are expensive but feel they give me everything I want. I also recently found albums at Kohl's of all places. No idea who made the album but I think it is a branch of westrim. Love it!
I realize all of us want our books to last. I am sure you could say if I scrapped first in a CM book I wouldnt' have these problems. Those scrapbooks are still in good shape but not my favorite. I found flaws with them. Which is also the case with my CM books.
I worry more about the adhesive than anything else. I want to make sure what I put on a page stays. I also want good sturdy page protectors. (Which I must say is the one area I think CM needs to improve. I find they are very thin and hard to get on.)

I don't know if anyone can asure you everything that isn't CM is perfectly safe.

Well said Patty!
We must have been posting at the same time!

I just want to make a quick not to any new disboarders reading this thread -
please don't be scared -
This end of the disboard is usually fun and everyone is nice and kind and respectful of eachother - but some ask for debates and arguments - trolls
scrapbooking isn't that bad...
buying a sizzix at Michaels will not make your scrapbook disinigrate before your eyes...
adding fibers and ribbons will not make all photos fade and dissappear
using eyelets and brads will not cause spontaneous combustion.
and Maggie is actually the one of the sweetest friends you could have (and she knows whre all the GREAT sales are too!)

Oh To the original poster!
This was a great question! Lots of really good information has been posted here! I had no idea about heat setting certain inks! No wonder that one frame I stamped on rubbed right off!

"and Maggie is actually the one of the sweetest friends you could have (and she knows whre all the GREAT sales are too!)"

 awe shucks patty

maggie

Just please stop telling me about the new sales - I really want my house - and it is going to be tough if i don't slow down there!

Ladies _ i think it is time to abandon this thread now -
I have posted a new one to start this all over - THE RIGHT WAY -
so please...

I really am sorry - I am not a troll at all, I am just an overly cautious person in everything I do. You have succeeded in scaring me away from the forum though. In regards to my researching scrapbook stuff - I didn't say I had researched stamping as of yet, so I though I'd get some answers here. I honestly didn't know I had to emboss when just using ink over the embossing powder (it also doesn't say so on my ink pad) - like I said, the scrapbook store didn't tell me this either.

I am sorry. It seems as if you all have a tightknit group here, so I am sorry for intruding, my questions were legitimate - the whole scrapbooking thing is very confusing to me, as I am a newbie and I am really concerned with longevity of my books, perhaps I am being overly cautious, but I guess that's my choice to do so. In regards to my CM comments, again those were misunderstood. I only commented on my experiences thus far in reference to this topic - I don't judge people at all, I certainly wouldn't do this with scrapping - people are free to do what they like with scrapping, but since I am a newbie and someone who craves knowledge, I figured I would get that from you people here.

Again, sorry for intruding. I really do like this board, but I guess I'll just read messages from now on.

Tiger :sad2:

Tigger it isn't that you are over cautious that bothers so many of us. It is some of the comments. or things that don't make sense/contradict what you are saying. Everyone needs to find what is best for them. We honestly won't know what your books or mine will look like in 50 years until that time comes.
If you really truly want to know something and understand different techniques that is great. Really.::yes::
But I just felt in some way you were trying to get something stirring.
yes there are many of us on here who are very tight. Have been posting together for a long time. But we also bring the newbies right in with us. We all love this hobby. Love sharing ideas and information. No one is going to scrap exactly the same way or feel the same way about new products. Heck even many of the CMC on this thread scrap differently and don't follow the CM way of thinking.
This hobby for me is for so many reason. it allows me to be creative, preserve my photo's in a fun way. To have a place to make comments about my kids, family and life. It also will be a wee bit of time frozen. Those of us who have been scrapping for awhile, I am sure know what I mean...think of the decorative sissors!?!?!?? :earboy2: Or patterne paper. Lay out after lay out filled with patterned paper!

:cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:
 Sondra - thank you
(what is with the bananna anyways - why is that necessary)
Tiger if you are not a troll you are welcome -
please be considerate of others that may not have the same beliefs and criticize or condem.... you are more than welcome to stay - everyone scraps for different reasons and want different results...
seems like you keep stirring up contreversy - oh god i am going to quot my mom here -
'if you don't have anything good to say - don't say anything at all'

now please can we let this thread die and go to thread heaven....
or hell

I'm still not sure if I would feel comfortable posting on this board again to another thread as I guess I'm still a little confused as to how I contradicted myself, or about what I posted that doesn't make sense. Plus, I don't think I judged or criticized as I really was just looking for answers - if I had the answers to these questions, I wouldn't have posted in the first place, so based on the fact that I'm still a little confused about how this thread has gone, I don't think I'll be posting for awhile as I don't want to upset anyone else in the future - that was not my intention at all.

I really do thank those of you who answered my requests for stamping info, that was much appreciated.

Tiger

My $.02 (which is all the brain matter I can spare :D ) -- I've seen trolls a plenty and quite honestly I don't think Tiger926 is one. Now I could be wrong, but I don't think I am in this case. I think she's just asking questions. I would hate for her to be chased away if she just wants to gain some more information about scrapping.

I have a whole bag of scrapping stuff I haven't used yet and I would hate to think that I couldn't come here to ask questions and learn.

The thing we all have to keep in mind is that sometimes the things we type come across diffenently when they are read as opposed to when they are running though our brains. So perhaps when you type something it might be interpreted differently when you thought it than when someone else reads it.

Well said Beth. As a former boss said, it's time for a group hug and back to the wonderful people we usually are. :grouphug:
