RPR problems

We just returned from RPR. We booked 3 nights at the Club level with 2 queen beds. We are Loews members so we asked for a poolview room when we arrived. They said they did not have a room with 2 queen beds so gave us a king bed and a sofa bed which was not very comfortable. So, essentially instead of getting an upgrade as a Loews member we were downgraded! To the credit of RPR, they decreased our room rate by $40 per night but that still didn't remove the fact that one of us had to sleep on a sofa bed.

Another minor matter, we were in Tower 3 and on our last day there was a new attendant in the Club Lounge, a young man with curly hair. He was very officious and seemed to be having a bad day. When I finished my snack, I took the plate and left it on the counter. The young man said "We have trash bins over there". I usually put my plastic dishes in the garbage and returned any washable dishes to the counter, as a courtesy to the staff rather than forcing them to clean up my table. I must have thought that I had washable dishes. I felt it was insulting for him to make that comment.

So, RPR is still a great hotel with FOTL and the pool, but in my books it is no longer a first class hotel. I will try the other resort hotels next year.

Please make sure when you fill out the survey, you let them know about your issues. Was what you got a King suite? If so, that was an upgrade if you have two people, but not a good thing if someone has to sleep on that sofa. The head manager of the hotel needs to be informed because they need to stop this practice of overbooking.

Hi thats rotten, as said make sure you make them aware of your problems, was the room due to the view u wanted? or just that was all that was available

We were 3 people and my 16 year old son had to sleep on the sofa bed; so it wasn't an upgrade for us. Neither did we get a pool view that we wanted. Oh well, I suppose we will try HRH or PBH next time.

I was just wondering. I am a little confused with what you said. Was your original Club 2 queen standard view not available and you were forced to take the King room w/ sofa bed or your original room was available but you wanted some kind of upgrade and all that was available was the King room so you went for it?

It scares me to think that I can book a room with 2 queen beds and then get there and they tell me none are available so we have to take a king room with a sofa bed. Aren't the sofa beds small. We would have 4 in our party. I can't imagine 2 people trying to sleep on a sofa bed together.

It is a real possibility that this could happen to us too because we would be checking in rather late-4pm because we have an 8 hour ride.

If that happens, you demand what you booked. If they can't deliver, then they need to send you to the Hard Rock or the Portofino. Hold your ground. Do not get out of line until you are satisfied. Demand to see the manager. They'll find something.

Give the hotel a call two days before you arrive and make sure that the room organizer person has put you in the type of room you want. I have heard of this exact same thing happening quite often at Disneyland. It is always good to confirm.

We booked 2 queen beds and when we arrived at 9am they only had a king with a sofa. The sofa would be very uncomfortable for 2 people as it bows into the middle. Good luck!

Did they give you that room right away or did you have to wait until after 4:00 for it? It seems so weird that at 9:00 am they knew that there would be no queen/queen rooms available for you for the rest of the day. I'm just wondering if they were trying to get rid of their king suites early to make more availability of the queen/queen rooms which are more popular.

The other person who had the same difficulty was checking in very early too. Perhaps this is their new ploy or perhaps their is some confusion that people don't care if they get their room right away, they just want their room that they reserved.

The exact same thing happened when we stayed at RPR, not only was the front desk rude about not having the room we reserved (two queens) we had to call downstairs twice to get the roll-away bed brought in for our son to sleep on.

It was a pain for him to sleep on a portable bed, but the worst part was not having anyplace to sit and eat room service meals. The room was stuffed to the gills. I'm glad they at least offered to discount your room.

When were you there?

We were there July 20 - 23, 2007. I know we will try another hotel next time. The question is whether we try a Universal/Loews hotel. It is hard to give up the FOTL passes that their hotels offer.

We were there in the summer of 05. We weren't even hoping for an upgrade, just two beds. We checked in around 4:00 p.m. so it wasn't that we were late either (we timed our exit from Disney so we could check right into our room at Universal).

It was annoying, but in the end it's their loss.

We also had the same problem when we stayed at RPR a few years ago. We booked a King, Park view and they gave us 2 queens with a parking lot view. We complained rather loudly and they switched us to a pool view but we never got our king room. The hotel really didn't care, they basically said, to bad. We spoke to managers and they were no help.
We have not been back and I am staying off site when I go in the Fall.

I am just curious - those that have had problems getting the beds they booked - who did you book through? Did you book directly through Loews or Universal or did you use a third party like Expedia or Travelocity?

The parkview thing I can understand. That is never guaranteed. But not getting the bed count you requested is another. However, I have heard that if you book through Expedia, Travelocity, Hotwire, etc, you are not even guaranteed the bed choice. When we first started travelling to Universal long ago when RPR first opened, Travelocity told us that they couldn't guarantee us we would get a 2 queen room. They would only guarantee a gardenview or poolview. But we would have to take what was available in that category. We could request the 2 queen, but it was not guaranteed.

Needless to say, as a family of 5, we never booked through a third party. And that was long ago, so don't know if that is still the case. Which is why I am curious if the three posters that had problems booked directly through Loews or Universal or if they used one of the discount third party places.

Yep this happened to me last week. We requested a Park view room, didn't get it. Got an ok view of the moat, but it wasn't the same, I like to be able to see the park from the room. Probably has a lot to do with going in a peak time as well. But next time I may stand my ground.

Parkview is not something you can reserve. You can request it, but you cannot reserve it. Just like you can request what tower, what room, etc you would like. But you cannot reserve it. It may not do you any good to stand your ground, as you would have nothing to stand on.

However, that said, I have found the RPR very accomodating in the park view thing as long as you are flexible.

One time, we arrived late. We had garden view reserved. I had a park view request on my reservation. At check-in, I again asked for a park view, but none were available. However, they said to call the next morning at 7am. I did and there was a great park view room available. We moved rooms and got a great view on the top floor overlooking Hulk, Dr. Doom, etc.

On a side note, we recently stayed at RPR and I had some issues with it. I filled out the survey about a month & a half ago and still haven't heard a word from them. Not even a "thank you for filling out our survey".

Hey Goofy! The same thing happened to us last December. We had standard room reserved and when we checked in the girl checking us in said Yuck! You have a terrible view!" I said it was allright and she kept saying how sorry she was. especially since I was in a leg cast at the time and would be spending a lot of time in the room. I didn't think the view was that bad - the highway in the distance but the grounds were beautiful. The next morning we got a call asking if it would be too much trouble to pack up our bags and move(I thought they were kicking us out!:rotfl2: ) They moved us to a conceirge room with great view of the pool and park- it was beautiful!
When we were checking out my husband had gone to get the car and I was waiting with our son. He was crying(he is autistic and has trouble sometimes with separation) One of the men at valet asked if it was allright to give our son a stuffed animal and I said sure. He came back with one of those huge black dogs you get at the parks- it was almost as big as our son!
We loved the RPR!

Well, we booked directly with RPR and didn't get the 2 queen beds. The more I hear about this hotel the more convinced I am that meeting the basic, essential needs are not their priority. They need to make some major changes. I have received the basic requests at many other "cheap" hotels without a problem but RPR just doesn't seem to be able to provide it on a consistent basis.

We booked our king room directly through the Loew's website and a King bed room was never available the 2 nights we were there. We were there in the fall and it was not busy.
