Do they still charge a crazy price for onsite parking at RPR?...Im going to be the 8/26-8/30 and was wondering if im better off with a shuttle bus....:cool2:

It was $15 per night on our trip last September. I haven't read anything regarding it going up lately.

Self parking just went up about 1-2 months ago to $17 per night.

Thank you, I printed out our reservations a few days ago and of course it still says $15 (made the ressie in January) at least I'll know now why it'll be a little higher on the final bill!

You really don't have a choice, but think of it this way. The Universal hotels at least enumerate the cost in the bill, and charge only those that use it. You could easily make the case that WDW also charges parking for onsite stays, just that it's bundled with the cost of the room and charges everyone (with or without car) the same.

What gets me is if your an annual pass holder you can park for free if your going to the parks for the day but you have to pay to park to stay at the hotel. Makes no sense.

Could be because of .....

1. Parking is very limited at the hotels. Free parking could be an issue.

2. Universal doesn't own the parking lots for the hotels. Not even sure if an outside company other than Loews doesn't manage them.

3. Loews charges for parking at all its hotels as do many of the hotels in Orlando.

4. Having AP holders park for free at the hotels just to take advantage of the closeness of the hotels to the parks (such as HRH) could create a huge problem because of the lack of parking spaces. It is difficult even now to get a spot at the HRH.

5. Keeps prices lower for those who aren't using a car.

6. Makes money for the hotels, although just adding this into the price of the rooms and jacking the prices up $17 for everyone seems to be an easier way to make money.

Yes I see your point. I dont think its fair to penalize people who are using a car. AP holders spend a lot of money not just for the passes but even when we're there for just a day. If you want to charge for parking it ought to be more reasonable than $17 a day.

They can easily keep people from taking advantage of parking closer to the parks at one of the hotels by issuing some sort of car tag or sign or ticket to stick on your dashboard that distinguishes you as a hotel guest

But do you think it is fair to penalize those people who don't have a car by hiding the parking fees in everyone's nightly rate like at Disney?

Charging people for something they are using is not penalizing. Charging people for something they are not using is.

This is one of the reasons we never stay at a Disney hotel. We always stay at RPR and drive down to Disney. :thumbsup2

I much prefer Universal hotels way of doing it..Disney builds everything into the exhorbitant nightly rates they charge and calls it "perks" whether you use it or not. This way I don't have to pay for something I never use ( a rental car)Most cities and tourist destinations do the same thing Universal does, and that $17 per night rate is CHEAP compared to what I have paid in DC or NYC
