As we hadn't been to RPR booked there for one night at start of holiday. I was supposed to have gold status but received no gift or upgrade!!!
Checked in early and got a room overlooking the highway with iron burns on the carpet and room not as **** and span as we were used to. It was right next to club which was a bonus for kids. As we had such a long flight and we were only staying one night I just left it and got on with our day. Went to the pool and was fairly unimpressed by adults drinking and participating in quiz. Bottles were strewn everywhere and there were a few in the island which bar staff would have to swum out to.
I did query gift issue with them and produced letter staing gold but got no direct answer. As we were checking out I asked if we could book again for 2 days later. I was told no I had to phone no other info given. I asked what would happen if I walked in on the day and was then told I would get a room if available. As only 46% full I knew this wouldn't be a problem. Anyway next day I got a survey to fill in which I did truthfully . I got a reply from person at RPR apologising about issues I had raised and giving me his name if we stayed in future. Club room staff and staff on club floor were lovely and I would have gone back again as they were so good. However girls decided they much prefered Hard Rock so we checked in there a few days later. A bit inconvenient as I had to phone reservations to get AAA then go back to desk. Fortunately my mobile was charged and I had it in my bag and not at villa. We had a lovely holiday and I am now even more confused as to whcih I would prefer as each has important aspects. Room size at RPR an issue with 5 but preferred the club lounge. Loved the rooms at Portofino but didn't like the lounge. Liked the Hard rock.
Won't be back for a few years so you first won't be an issue. Disppointed not to get benefit of Gold staus for first and last time.

If you book club, there is no upgrade.

If you would have booked garden view, you would have been upgraded to pool view. That is the only upgrade automatically given.

Thanks. Was a bit disappointed with the lousy view thought we might have gotten an upgrade to a better view than that of the highway. Being 5 we would never get an upgrade other than a view. Welcome gift was the only thing we ever got out of the loewes scheme anyway other than a late checkout once.

We've had such a variety of views at RPR with and without our upgrade. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to why you are placed where and we've actually gotten our worse views with our suite upgrades. I guess requesting a view is the best policy.

I have no explanation for the welcome gift.

we just returned i was anything but impressed with this place - we usually stay at the hard rock and will be returning there on the next trip - i am a blue lowes member had to bargain to get a late check out and was told since we wanted a smoking room we were not eligible for the free upgrade.

also i found the room to be extremely small compared to the hard rock it felt like we were right on top of each other and there were only 3 of us.

also i found to food at this hotel to be some of the worst i ever had.

Oh no, I have recently booked a night at RPR in Feb 09 as a surprise for DH and 2 DS's(6&8).

Do you think I should change to HRH and will they refund or just swap and take the fdifference from card?

Thanks

We love the RPR. I have never slept as well as I sleep in their beds.
With five people though, I can see wanting the bigger room at the Hard Rock.
We also enjoyed any meals we've eaten at Islands and Tchoup Chop at the RPR.

Look at the website pictures. What you see is exactly what you get. We love all of the resorts and have had great experiences at all of the hotels. We love the food at RPR, especially at the Islands. I wouldn't fret about it.

We have stayed here at the RPR for the last 3 years , and have 2 stays booked for next July.
Do not think you would be disappointed with any of the hotels, We have stayed at PBH , but cannot comment on HRH.
Have found food at all restaurants at the RPR to be excellent, Islands is very good and not that expensive [compared to here in UK] and usually eat here a few times when we stay.
We also enjoy staying at the pool some nights and just getting food from the Bula Grill, which is really good for pool food.

My wife and I love RPH. We have never had a bad experience so far.:thumbsup2

All rooms at RPR club are the same price, regardless of view. It makes no difference what level you are. If you wanted a specific view, you needed to request it. Not sure why, but that's the way RPR works.

Also, you didn't mention what rate you paid.

If you booked AAA or Super Saver, would think you'd have received welcome gift. If you booked APH or through a 3rd party, you would've not been eligible, regardless of your being gold.
