RPR/HRH Report with LOTS of pics!

tlinus,

Thank you for the offer of the contact name. I will let you know if I end up needing it. No, I did not get a survey from HRH (hmmmm) but I did already receive one from RPR.

Back to the report...

It was our first day at HRH, and we spent the evening at the pool. The kids loved it! I really, really liked the zero entry feature. We brought lifejackets from home (more on those in a minute) but the kids didn't use them very often.

Dh and I were feeling very "vacationy" and decided to have a beer poolside. I had a bud light and he had a corona. After tax and tip, the bill came to $12.57. Yipes!!!

Now, about those life jackets. We were in the pool for only an hour or so when dh comes over to tell me that one of our life jackets (that we brought from home) was taken! A woman had seen a girl take it off our lounge chair, and told dh what she looked like. I can't begin to tell you how angry I was. The life jackets weren't cheap - in fact they are very similar to the ones that HRH lets their guests use. Well, we looked all over and couldn't find this girl. Then, we see another girl, not fitting the description, come down the slide with OUR life jacket on. Since I knew she wasn't the one that took it, I approached her and asked her to point me towards her mom or dad. Her older sister (teenagey) was there with her and after I explained why I wanted to speak to her parents, she understood and said to go ahead and take the vest - that her sister had gotten it out of the bin at the top of the slide and would just go get another one. Well, long story short, the lifeguard at the top of the slide tells the kids that if they see a life jacket lying around that is not being used and they bring it up there they can go to the front of the line for the slide. He needs to specifically say that it needs to have an "HRH" written on the back. I will mention it in my survey to HRH. Moral of the story, keep your life jackets hidden when not in use!

Here are some pics taken at the pool:

A little blurry, but you can make out the depth. There is a pretty strong current.

Really, really blurry, but you can at least get an idea of what the dive-in movie looks like:

We eat here the next day (pics of food follow later in this post):
HRHBeachCluboutside-1.jpg

We only let the kids watch a couple minutes of the movie, then we headed off to bed. They didn't even complain - we were all really tired!

It was not a good night. My daughter woke up around 11 saying she didn't feel good. She made it to the bathroom in time to throw up. Felt better, and went right back to sleep and slept through the rest of the night.

The next morning, we woke up to find a letter had been slid under our door saying that a sprinkler had gone off during the night, causing alarms to sound and that if we were checking out that day and needed extra time, to let the front desk know. We never heard any alarms go off, so I assume it was in another part of the hotel. I remember someone else here had posted that it something to do with a guest bumping a sprinkler head with the ironing board...

Well, my daughter said that she felt FINE, so we chalked it up to maybe too much sun and went ahead with our plans to all go to the Richard Petty Driving Experience with my husband. We caught a cab and were there in not much time at all. The man at the entrance, though, was just STRANGE. Even after telling him that we were visiting Universal, not Disney, he kept saying things to the kids like "Are you going to see Mickey?" I thought he was a jerk and was trying to "get back at us" for not doing Disney. My husband just thinks he was "clueless."

Well, my daughter starts feeling sick again and I decide I really need to take her back to the hotel. The Richard Petty shuttle took us to Disney's TTC where we caught a cab back to the hotel ($37.75). I was hoping that our trip insurance would cover that, but they say they won't.

We made it back to the hotel and my daughter threw up again. (And again, she felt much better afterwards - you know how that goes!).

My husband and the two other kids returned from Richard Petty right around lunch time. Thankfully, I remembered people on this board recommending Flippers, so we placed an order for two medium (8 sl) pizzas and an order of garlic bread (because I thought my daughter might eat that). They said it would take about 35 minutes, and that's when it arrived - good and hot! My dh had to go to the lobby to get it - I guess that is the norm? Total for 2 medium pizzas and four cans of pop (soda to some of you - LOL!) was $29.75.

After lunch, my husband took the two "well" kids to IOA, with the understanding that they were just "checking out" the rides and that we would all ride them again when their sister felt better. They rode a few rides and returned a few hours later. My husband said he thinks they were missing their sister!

By the time they returned, my youngest (by three minutes - :dance3: ) was feeling MUCH better and we decided to head to the pool. We swam for a short while and then decided to eat at the Beach Club. All in all, it was a pretty good meal, but I was SHOCKED when dh later told me that the bill had come to $80!!! Dh and I had iced tea, one kid had juice and two had chocolate milk. Dh had a chicken sandwich, I had fish and chips that I shared with oldest (by three minutes) daughter, son had a cheeseburger, youngest had a hot dog, and we ordered nachos to share. Well, upon closer inspection of the receipt, they charged us for refills on our drinks. We never noticed it on the menu, but it's there...

While eating dinner, my cell phone rang and it was Andy from Gardengrocer with our delivery! Yippeee!! I went into the lobby to accept the order while dh and the kids swam some more. Andy brought groceries up to the room and had me "check off" items as he unloaded them. I really liked that, because you knew your order was complete (not quite, though, in this case) and you didn't feel like you were putting him on the spot or delaying him from getting to his next delivery. While checking off items, we realized that he had forgotten to bring the styrofoam cooler that I had ordered up from his car, and tha the "packers" had forgotten to include the butter I had ordered. He came back up with the cooler and said that he could either take the butter off the bill or deliver it first thing in the morning. I opted for having it delivered the next morning.

In addition to what's in the pic, we also had a 12 pack of Pepsi, 24 bottles of water, a tub of cream cheese, two half gallons of milk (I thought they'd stay fresher than a single gallon) and the styrofoam cooler. Cost with tax and $7 tip was $101.35.

The oranges were a little green, but the bananas were nice and ripe.

After we were all finished at the pool, I decided to stop at Emack and Bolio's to ask if I could have a couple little butters for the next morning because our grocery order had been missing it. The person was sooo nice and said take as much as I wanted and suggested I take some pb&j too (which I did not).

And, well, since I had the camera with me anyway...

There was another section with bagels and coffee, but I didn't get a pic of it.

This report is taking more time than I thought, so I'll have to ask you to wait until tomorrow for pics of food from The Kitchen and the "$7.00 cup of coffee."

Loving the TR. Love the attention to detail and the many many pictures! "Gemma loves pictures!" Your children are adorable and go you for raising triplets!

Great pictures!:thumbsup2
I feel like I'm there.

Are you a scrapbooker?
I am and take pictures of everything
(driving DH & DSs crazy).

Thank you all for your kind words! Glad to hear you are enjoying my report.

GemmaPixie, I had the opportunity to visit the Giant's Causeway many years ago. What an amazing sight! Are you anywhere near there?

NYMom, no I am not a scrapbooker. I'm almost afraid to get started because I know I'd get "hooked." LOL!

You'll be glad to know that there will be no more references to anyone being sick. We are all healthy from this point on in our trip (thank goodness!!).

Please let me back-peddle just a bit... I had mentioned that RPR never asked for our AP at check-in. Just wanted to let you know that they DID ask for it at HRH (as they should).

Also, I didn't mention much about the Richard Petty driving experience because I had to leave there early with my daughter. My husband had a great time there. He followed all the rules they gave and got up to 123 (?) mph. They tell you to stay three car lengths behind your lead car. If you don't (if you are either too close OR too far away), the lead car slows down. My husband said as each driver got out of their car (through the window of course, since there are no doors) the instructor would tell them what they did wrong. When dh got out, they only said "you did well." He was curious to know how fast the other drivers went, but they don't tell you that information. (BTW, there are no speedometers in the cars.)

They also took the kids (and any other family members that wanted to go) around the track in a van for free. They have drinks and small snacks there for purchase, as well as souvies of course. BTW, we received a 20% AAA discount! Yippee!

Oh, and I had mentioned earlier in my report that my dh took our two "well" kids to IOA for a few hours after returning from Richard Petty. It was actually USO that they visited. And that is where I pick up my report...

We woke up bright and early and headed to the Studios. I know you've heard this tip a thousand times, but you're going to hear it again: GET TO THE PARKS EARLY!!

Here's our wait for ET, about a half hour after the park opened:
USOETline.jpg

Here's how long it could have been:
USOETempty.jpg

Another picture of the park, almost empty:
USOempty.jpg

Food wise, we pretty much let the kids "junk it up" all day. At some point we stopped at the Midway Grill and ordered two hot dog platters and one corn dog nugget platter.

The hot dogs were huge:

USOMidwayGrillhotdogs.jpg

My kids just LOVED USO. I found it much less crowded-feeling than IOA (especially the Super Hero area at IOA -Ugh!).

Just to mention our opinions of some of the larger attractions:

Jimmy Neutron - Loved it. Did it several times. A/C!!!

Shrek 4-D: Very loud, and those seats really shake from the very first scene on! Kids loved it, of course. A/C!!!

Twister - This one scared my kids. Not so much during the actual show, but afterward they kept asking me questions about tornados (ex. If there was a tornado by our house... etc." I think this one was a little too real for them.

Earthquake - I'm surprised this one didn't scare the kids, but then again we don't have many earthquakes in Ohio...

Jaws - Don't sit on the right hand side of Row 8 unless you WANT to get wet.

MIB - It broke down JUST as we were about to board. Was back up in less than 5 minutes, so don't bail immediately. Loved it. I think having a gun in their hands made the kids not afraid. LOL! A/C!!

Fear Factor - Loved it. Wish we had seen it more than once. Outdoor stadium.

Animal Actors - The kids loved it. It was a very short show. Outdoor stadium.

E.T. - Loved it. Rode it a couple of times. Wish the kids had seen the movie before we went, though. Just never got around to renting it. FYI, they have bench seats available if you need it - we saw someone ask for one. The regular seats are *like* bike seats in that you have to straddle something, but are much larger and more comfortable than bike seats.

We did not do Mummy, Terminator 2, or the Make-Up show.

The next day we head to IOA...

Again, we got to the parks early. Sorry, no food pics of this day at the park. (But pics from dinner at The Kitchen are coming up).

We headed straight to Pteranodon Flyers. When we had tried to ride this on our first day the line was 45 minutes long. There is no express pass on this ride. This time the wait was only 10 minutes. Dh and the kids went on it. Two per car. The sign says that if you are adult, you must be "accompanied" by a child. This was absolutely not being enforced. I would say about 60% of the cars I saw go by had only adults in them. This is a VERY slow loading ride. Dh said there are only two cars (that hold only 2 people). One car is out on the track while the other car is loading. I believe the ride lasts less than one minute. It looks really cool from the ground, so your kids are probably going to want to ride it. Get there early and get it out of the way!

Spiderman: Incredible ride!

Ripsaw Falls - We all went on with the kids. They loved it. No one got very wet.

Bilge-Rat Barges - We all went on. Take off your shoes. I wore a poncho and still got drenched. The area where you exit the ride is terribly stinky from the water and all the bare feet. Sorry I had to share that. Also, there are areas where people pay to shoot water at you. We did this a couple times and then discovered that if you go on Me Ship, The Olive, they have free cannons. We did this for a while and the kids really loved it!

Jurassic Park River Adventure: Dh went on with the kids. My kids loved it.

Poseidon's Fury: This is a walking "tour." My son bailed out just while waiting in line, he was so scared. So he and I went out the "emergency exit" where we saw a Palmetto bug which I think scared him even more! LOL! The girls did fine with my dh, though.

The 8th Voyage of Sinbad: My kids loved this show! Outdoor stadium with some splash zones on the far right (when you are looking at the stage).

The Flying Unicorn: Loved it, and rode it several times. (No wait!)

1 fish, 2 fish, red fish, blue fish: Got very wet. I tried to follow what the song was saying.... What did I do wrong? Cars can hold two or three people.

Cat in the Hat: Relaxing ride in A/C. Three kids in front, mom and dad second row.

We did not do: Dr. Doom's Fear Fall, Storm Force, Hulk, and Dueling Dragons.

Fun Tip: Look at the net below the upside-down area of Hulk, near the Spidey ride. We saw a hat, sunglasses, and a cell phone! Glad I didn't get hit on the head with those! LOL!

It started STORMING and we headed back to the hotel. We had "promised" the kids that they could go to Camp Lil'Rock. We had stopped in to see it earlier and had gotten a good "feel" from the person working there. We generally do not use the babysitting services, but we wanted them to get used to it so that we could use the ones at Disney on our next trip there. Also, we are going to a convention where the kids will be separated from the adults, and thought this would be good practice. Everything went fine. They had a video game (arcade type) that was broken and according to my kids only one of the four computer games worked. My girls had more fun doing crafts with the worker. My son played video games with the only other child there. They all had fun.

We decided to go to The Kitchen for dinner, since it was STILL storming outside. Dh put our name in at the restaurant when he went to get the kids from the babysitting service. They said it would be about a 20 minute wait.

The waitress told us the day's specials, which included a chicken breast stuffed with goat cheese, which sounded really interesting. A little voice in my head said "ask the price." The waitress didn't know and had to go check. When she came back she told us it was $24. Instead, I opted for the roasted chicken that was on the menu ($17.95).

The outdoor waiting area:

Kid's menu, on an oven mitt:
HRHkitchenkidsmenu.jpg

I took this picture trying to show that the napkins were "kitchen towels." You can actually see that better in some of the other pictures.
HRHkitchentowels.jpg

I don't think we had warm bread anywhere during our vacation, but it was yummy anyway!
HRHkitchenbread.jpg

Roasted Chicken, green beans almandine, sweet potato mash. It was "partially deboned" which I had never seen before. Underneath was a piece of dark meat. Absolutely delicious!
HRHkitchenroastedchicken.jpg

Meatloaf with green beans, carrots, and buttermilk mashed potatoes. Mushroom stout gravy.

HRHkitchenmeatloaf.jpg

We opted to have the kids order off the kids menu instead of the $8 kids buffet.

Cheeseburger:

Hot dogs:

My daughter said this was the best grilled cheese sandwich she has ever had:

I promised more info on our "roof view" and you will get it in the next installment, along with information on how you can win a 2-night return stay at the HRH.

Bye for now!

Great report
Thanks for writing and sharing your trip
we will be there at HRH for the first time this July ;)

Just a quick update on the overcharge situation... They are refunding us $67.50. Apparently, the manager put in the comments that the rate was $129 (still don't understand why he even had to override it...) but there was another step he had to do to actually get the rate to change on the bill and it wasn't done. We should expect our refund in 3-5 days. I'm happy.

What a great report & wonderful pictures :thumbsup2

We stayed at RPR at Easter and are hoping to fit in one night at HRH at Hallowe'en (AP rates permitting) - thank you !!

Betty, Giant's Causeway is about an hours drive away from me but I've been there many times- everyone who lives in Northern Ireland has visited the Giant's Causeway. It's beautiful. Glad you enjoyed it.

Another thing. When we were at IOA and went to go on Pteranodon Flyers, they told us that as long as we had one child, out whole party could ride. I don't think you need a child beside you on the ride but you need one with your party.

Great news! It's always nice to hear when people come though.:goodvibes

Just a side note...I called about an obstructed view. Only rack rates are out at this point, but still...$290-something...

Wonderful, wonderful trip report. Thank you so much for doing it and posting pics. It is so fun to live other's vacations vicariously - and not be out the money . . . yet.:lmao:

enjoying your report!!!

yes, that WAS a makeup mirror broken off (that "towel holder" next to the sink at HRH)....... i'm glad you took a pic of the hopper....now everyone can see what i mean when i "complained" the paper was 'behind me'....didn't like that!

looking forward to more report and pix.... :goodvibes

Gemma, that makes sense. I'll bet most of the adults were in a larger party with kids.

i'm glad you took a pic of the hopper....now everyone can see what i mean when i "complained" the paper was 'behind me'....didn't like that!

It took me forever to figure out what you were saying... I've never heard it called a "hopper" before. LOL!

Our final day at HRH...

I woke up to a very strange smell in the room. I honestly thought that my son had wet the bed. That hasn't happened in ages, but I thought maybe he was just so exhausted that he didn't wake up. Ran over to check him. Nope (thank goodness!). Checked the girls (nope again). Dh said maybe it was the groceries... I figured he might be right and went back to sleep.

Woke up a few hours later to get ready to check out and head over the Hilton Garden Inn SeaWorld. Found our bill and a letter under our door. This is what the letter read:

"REMEMBER THE TIME?" - Michael Jackson

"Dear Hard Rock Guest,

Rock 'N Roll

Mark Shouger
Rooms Division Director"

I've included this information in my trip report because you might do what we did and just set the bill and letter aside until you are ready to leave. I know we left the hotel before 10 a.m. but since we hadn't read the letter we did not call down and therefore did not get entered in the drawing. So, if you are checking out early, be prepared to call when you get up!

So, we're packing up and dh goes over by the window to pack up his laptop. Picks up the case off the floor near the window and YUCK! The smell we were smelling was water all over the floor around the window! I mean really, really wet. Thank goodness the laptop itself was on the table. The case was made of nylon and seems to have dried out okay. It had rained SO MUCH the day before, and with that roof being flat... well, I'm sure that's why the water came in.

Well, that about covers it. I'm going to do a short report on our SeaWorld visit over on that board, so check there in the next couple days if you are interested in reading about SeaWorld.

I'd like to thank you all for reading my trip report and for your nice words, and here is how I'd like to do it....

I have 7 sets of IOA and USO maps that I can send out to the first 7 people who PM me their address.

Also, let me know if you would like a copy of the current adult menu from The Kitchen (at HRH). I am going to send it into Deb, but I'm sure it will take a while to get posted on her website.

Also, the first person who requests it will get my left-over coupons from the MasterCard booklet (I think we only used one). Really only a benefit if you don't have an AP or AAA. Warning - they were carried around for a week, so they're a little beat-up, but certainly still usable! They expire 12/30/07.

Betty

Gee, thanks for the offers. We won't be going back until summer 2008, but thanks anyway.

Your report was great and really really   loved the pictures.

:cool1:

Betty after seeing all those food pics I was hungry! Our next trip to USO and IOA will be at HRH this time around. Im looking forward to it....Im glad you reminded everyone to check and double-check all receipts and bills....there are many mistakes made!!!!! Im so glad you enjoyed your trip...my recent trip report had a few bumps in the beginning of it, but the trip finished fine .:thumbsup2

I hope they offer us that check out deal. We usually check out well before 9am. I think last year we were OUT by 7:30am because we have to drive back to North Carolina. So if they offer it to us we will take them up on it. Although makes you wonder if they REALLY have the drawing. Ya know?
