DH and I brought our 8 month old Maltipoo, Libby, with us on vacation because we could not bear to leave her home for a week. We usually stay onsite at Disney but had to try out the pet-friendly Royal Pacific. It was really strange walking through the lobby with my pup. I did not see any other pets and felt like I would be turned away upon check-in. There was no need for worry as check-in went smoothly and we were put in Tower 2. We saw several dogs throughout the week, a couple of chihuahuas, yorkies, a lab, 2 alaskan malamutes, and a Coton de Tulear named Fred Astaire.
Our room was on the first floor with the access to the pet park at the end of the hall. The room was nice and did not have any bad pet odor from previous guests. Shortly after getting into the room, the pet welcome package was delivered. It contained a metal dog bowl, placemat, pet tag, and a sign to hang on the door to let housekeeping know a pet was in the room. Libby loved it!
The pet park area was not what I expected. The grass needed to be cut and it was sloped and muddy in some parts. The grass wasn't overgrown but a bit high for a small dog. Bags are provided to pick up waste but there were still piles to look out for.
Later in the week, we went to Bark Ave Bakery. The owner said they make the treats that were in the welcome kit. I told her i did not see them in the bag but would check when we got back to the hotel (they were not). This place was really cute with a show kitchen where they make the doggie delights. http://www.barkavenuebakery.com/
Beware of the sprinklers!! Libby lets us know when she needs to go out and we have no problem getting up and taking her in the middle of the night. We did not factor the sprinklers in to our late night walks. One night we went to the pet park and saw them on so I took Libby to the area outside the elevators that's not exactly an approved pet area but she had to go. As soon as we walked onto the grass the sprinklers came on in that area and I got soaked!
Since we were staying on Universal property, we made the most of the FOTL access at U/IOA. This allowed us to return to the room throughout the day to walk Libby. We brought her metal crate that fit nicely between the wall and the bed. Having her own bed made her feel at home.
Libby is not a barking dog but she would bark when she heard people outside our room being a bit too loud.
Overall we enjoyed our vacation and having our precious pup to come "home" to every night.

It is great having them with you, but it is more work! We've only taken them once and have stayed many times without them. It is very nice to have the option. I never noticed the grass being long, but my dogs are huge compared to yours! Thanks for the post and the pictures. I'm sure it will help many who are considering bringing their dogs!
