DH and I brought our 8 month old Maltipoo, Libby, with us on vacation because we could not bear to leave her home for a week. We usually stay onsite at Disney but had to try out the pet-friendly Royal Pacific. It was really strange walking through the lobby with my pup. I did not see any other pets and felt like I would be turned away upon check-in. There was no need for worry as check-in went smoothly and we were put in Tower 2. We saw several dogs throughout the week, a couple of chihuahuas, yorkies, a lab, 2 alaskan malamutes, and a Coton de Tulear named Fred Astaire.

Our room was on the first floor with the access to the pet park at the end of the hall. The room was nice and did not have any bad pet odor from previous guests. Shortly after getting into the room, the pet welcome package was delivered. It contained a metal dog bowl, placemat, pet tag, and a sign to hang on the door to let housekeeping know a pet was in the room. Libby loved it!

The pet park area was not what I expected. The grass needed to be cut and it was sloped and muddy in some parts. The grass wasn't overgrown but a bit high for a small dog. Bags are provided to pick up waste but there were still piles to look out for.:headache:

Later in the week, we went to Bark Ave Bakery. The owner said they make the treats that were in the welcome kit. I told her i did not see them in the bag but would check when we got back to the hotel (they were not). This place was really cute with a show kitchen where they make the doggie delights. http://www.barkavenuebakery.com/

Beware of the sprinklers!! Libby lets us know when she needs to go out and we have no problem getting up and taking her in the middle of the night. We did not factor the sprinklers in to our late night walks. One night we went to the pet park and saw them on so I took Libby to the area outside the elevators that's not exactly an approved pet area but she had to go. As soon as we walked onto the grass the sprinklers came on in that area and I got soaked!

Since we were staying on Universal property, we made the most of the FOTL access at U/IOA. This allowed us to return to the room throughout the day to walk Libby. We brought her metal crate that fit nicely between the wall and the bed. Having her own bed made her feel at home.

Libby is not a barking dog but she would bark when she heard people outside our room being a bit too loud.

Overall we enjoyed our vacation and having our precious pup to come "home" to every night.

Thanks for the review. I think that is the first one we've had from a pet owner on site.

Thanks, damo!

I did have a hard time getting info and pictures while planning our trip. Unfortunately, I did not take as many pictures as I had planned but I added a few to my previous post.

Libby is adorable! We've stayed at the RPR with our boxer and border collie mix dogs. We found the room and location to the pet area very nice. The hardest part of our trip was calming our boxer down in the elevator. He doesn't seem to like Universal rides. It is great having them with you, but it is more work! We've only taken them once and have stayed many times without them. It is very nice to have the option. I never noticed the grass being long, but my dogs are huge compared to yours! Thanks for the post and the pictures. I'm sure it will help many who are considering bringing their dogs!

We had our Shih-Tzu Scruffy at the Portofino Bay with us a few years back. You are so right, it is a lot more work! FWIW, the PBR pet area isn't any better, grass wise. We also had one that would bark and rumble whenever he heard someone. The metal bowl is a new touch, our bowl was plastic, but we did receive the dog cookies. He went ot the lobby with me one day and they gifted him with another welcome packet! My girls were definitely miffed as they received nothing at check in :lmao:!

Thanks, christophfam! We absolutely adore her!

Hi, Robin! We only brought her into the lobby one other day to try to take a family pic by the elephant fountain. It was still a bit strange to have her at the hotel with us.

Cute dog! RPR has a page in their compendium just for pets-treats and food menu, along with kitty litter and other pet needs.Thought that was a nice touch.

The pet menu was cute. We did not order anything though. Since we were driving we had room to pack her own bed and crate. Do you know if the hotel has these items available for free or charge?

Thanks for the pictures & the review. We're staying at the HRH in the spring with our GSD. I had to kennel him over the weekend and it broke my heart. He's staying with my in-laws for our next Disney trip but I think I'm going to have to stay on-site at Universal so I can have him with me.

How far of a walk is it from the parks to the hotels. I know it's close but is it approximately 1/2 mile, mile, etc.? Thanks.

Your dog is adorable, btw!

ETA: Did you indicate you had a dog when you booked online or did you reserve by phone? Thanks!

The parks are about a 3 minute walk from HRH.

Thanks! You can see why we couldn't leave her home.

I booked by phone through the Universal 1-800#. I believe they only asked for her name and indicated the $25 pet fee included the welcome kit.

We never walked from the hotel to the park. We used the water taxis. The walk from the room to the boat dock is just a few minutes and the walk from the boat dock to the front of either park was about 5 minutes really not far. Waiting for the boat wasn't too bad. I would say 20-30 minutes depending where you are in the park. If you are staying at HRH, you can walk directly to Universal Studios gate rather than take the boat.

We did bring Libby to Best Friends on Disney property for the day while we went to Epcot and while we went to the Halloween Party at Magic Kingdom.
They let us leave her soft-sided carrier and they put it in her indoor suite. She likes to lay in it at home so she was fine.

One more question...

Are the dogs allowed anywhere besides your room & the grassy area to pee/poop? Just read the pet policy but I wonder if they can go anywhere else.

They are not allowed at the pool area just the lobby. We tried to take a family portrait by the elephant fountain but she kept getting distracted by passersby.

We leave in 26 days for another week at the Royal Pacific. I will try to take more pictures. If anyone has questions about taking pets to Universal resorts, let me know and I will try to get answers.
