Royals coach attacked in Chicago

I was watching the game--how do you like that for a family night out. The dad should be punished especially severely.

They are low-life losers. What would motivate someone to act like that?

1) Stupidity
2) Alcohol
3) Stupidity

Take your pick.

Steve H,

I don't think you are in the least bit funny. That comment is offensive. Though I certainly could respond in kind, I will not stoop to that.

ryanpatricksmom! LOL!! I guess we share a similar sense of humor! :)

Smears of groups of people are uncalled for, whether they are Muslims, Catholics, Jews, Blacks, Latinos or Chicagoans. Yes, I have a good sense of humor, and yes I can take a joke, but I and the rest of the people in the Chicago area don't need to be smeared into a category with two despicable people whose behavior had nothing to do with the city in which they chose to do such a terrible thing. Just as it is absolutely inappropriate to smear Muslims for what happened on September 11, it is inappropriate to smear anyone except these two idiots for what happened last night. Sorry, but this is something that just gets under my skin!!!!

I think this is a time the phrase "lighten up" could be used. It was a joke. No one really believes all people from Chicago are like that. Are they??? LOL :p

I would normally be glad to lighten up, but I'm not so sure that it was a joke given the violent (and I use that term precisely) relationship between Cleveland and Chicago in American League baseball. You may think I exaggerate, but there have been way too many violent confrontations in the last 10-12 years between the Indians, White Sox, and their fans. While it is possible that this was an innocent, unknowing, quip designed to get a laugh, I seriously suspect that it was much more and that is the reason I have reacted this way. I would have thought it was funny had the geographic source been very different.

No one smeared Chicagoans. It was obviously a joke.

If it would make you feel better Doctor P, I could make the joke and then Steve could erase his. ;)

Is there a history between Gaithersburg, MD and Chicago too? I didn't even think Gaithersburg had a baseball team.

I actually haven't thought much about baseball in general since football season started -- and I certainly could care less about the White Sox this year (or, for that matter, since our favorite buddy Albert Belle left town :D). So, no, it wasn't a remark aimed toward the White Sox or Chicago in general.

Heck, make all the "beer throwing Cleveland fan" comments you want -- I'll laugh them off like most of us already do. :D

This thread reminded me I need to pick up some Midol--thanks!
