Long story short - with six in our family, we need two rooms. We've never been to Universal so haven't seen any of the hotels. Fell in love with the idea of PBH but have been wondering if the extra cost is worth it (for one room, I'd say definitely yes, but it's the extra cost of two rooms that make it a tough decision).

I check the Loews website regularly for the rates. To my surprise, today RPR showed up as having standard rooms for our dates for $131/night. Prior to this, the lowest rate was for water view for $149/night, and that wasn't enough of a difference to make me jump up and take action. With the new lower rate, though, we'd save $574 dollars (that's a lot of food and/or souvenirs and/or Blue Man Group!), but I'm worried the view will be dreadful.

Anyone stay in a standard view room? How bad IS the view? Thanks! :goodvibes

You can actually have really nice or you can have highway views. You can always try requesting. Last time we were there we had a king room that had a lovely view of the pond behind the hotel. If you are in a lower room the views are quite nice. If it is a higher room you can get a view that isn't so nice.

Well, that might work out okay because we prefer being on a lower floor. I probably like ground floors the best just for the ease of them unless there's some great city view to be had. I wish I weren't so darn finicky.

if you don't care about the view, ask for 'obstructed view room rate'....might be even less

I actually do care about the view. I like simple, quiet views of trees and lakes and such. I don't like "action" views like theme parks, highways, or even really pools. An obstructed view would be fine if the obstruction were a great big leafy tree but not fine if it were concrete or something like that. Seriously, I do wish I weren't always so finicky!

Obstructed views are views of trees.

You may want to request 3225 or other odd number endings for a nice peaceful view.

Tower 1 has no freeway views, either a pool view (costs more) or standard priced room with a theme park view. You will wake up to the Hulk testing (yes it's that loud).

We like Tower 1 because we take the fire exit stairs and are half way towards Citywalk when we exit the building. Getting back in is not as easy as the exit door only exits for security reasons so we walk to the lobby. Faster than the boats if visiting IOA.

Tower 1 can give views of the parking lot and parking garage...so not too lovely though.

We had a standard room in tower 1 3rd floor which had a quiet view of trees, a pond, and some of the hotel.

So that would be me freaking out about even the thought of waking up to the sounds of the Hulk!! Thank you so much for the replies, but I've decided I just don't want to take a chance with I-4 OR the Hulk. We're going to stick with the 2 bay view rooms at the PBH and shave a couple hundred dollars off of our food budget by having our own breakfast and snack items.

I finally feel totally at peace with where we'll be staying! Hooray!

Thanks again! :)

People who stay in Tower 1 w/ view of IOA.....

We've stayed in 1729 which faces IOA & the Hulk. And while you CAN hear it in the morning, it isn't loud enough to actually WAKE you up...unless you are really THAT light of a sleeper.

We had booked a standard room and when we checked in we were in tower 1 and they gave us a real pretty pool view. We had a view of the zero entry area of the pool and the kid boat plus lots of trees :)

I have never really heard noise from the parks until we walk outside on any of our stays and we have stayed in both tower 1 and 3, I refuse to stay in 2 because I don't want to chance getting a smoking or pet room.

WHat time do they start testing? We are light sleepers and will wake up. We will be getting up pretty early for Harry Potter, so it might not affect us.

whats the best way to request rooms, we will be there in 2 weeks. should we have done that already? should we e-mail the resort, or can we make the requests at check in. i think we would like tower 1 on an upper level. views of the park area would be neat. how many floors is it? could i just request something nearest to 1729?

Email or call. If you go to the www.loewshotels.com website, into the RPR page and click on "contact us", you can request.

We are in tower 1 right now. Hulk started testing a 7:00 am.

We just stayed in Tower 1 in room 1548. It is the farthest room from the elevators but good view with the Hulk and bamboo sights. The sound of the Hulk testing did not bother us. I would think the little kids running in the hall would be more of a nuisance...

We were in Tower 1, first floor, room 1111. All we saw were a bunch of bushes in front of the window. NO view whatsoever.
