If you are part of the savedisney.com mailing list, you may want to check your email.

I just received an email titled "Roy's Personal Greeting" with a link to his video message.

Just got the email and watched the video. Strategically, this is very, very smart on Roy's part, for it "personalizes" the situation at a critical point in time.

This disturbs me:

"FACT: We have asked both the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) to prohibit these broker votes (which are called "broker non-votes") in light of our active campaign seeking your withhold vote against Michael Eisner, John Bryson, Judith Estrin and George Mitchell. We are worried they will continue under their rules to permit brokerage firms to vote for all Disney management nominees if you do nothing to vote before the Disney Annual Meeting."

Now they are asking the SEC to CHANGE existing rules so that it will be more favorable to them? I don't remember them having a problem with this rule BEFORE they wanted to vote against Eisner.

"FACT: Your Board has the ability to exclude these so-called "broker non-votes" from the final tally on Messrs. Eisner, Bryson and Mitchell and Ms. Estrin. Do you think that the Disney Board will do so?"

Has the Disney board ever done so in the past? Again, the rules should change NOW, when they never had a problem with this before...when the "non-votes" were cast for their membership on the board?

If they want a proxy fight, fine...but they should then be willing to play by the same rules that were in effect when THEY were repeatedly re-elected to the board.

Chuck,

What does Roy's personal greeting have to do with what disturbs you? (in your post)

I only posted this message so that people could see the message from Roy. I did not want to start another Roy vs Michael thread.

wdw4us2,
I followed your link...
Since this is listed as the NEWEST article on the right side of the screen, I assumed THIS is what you were talking about.

If it is not, you may want to remove the link.

Chuck,

I withdrew the link so that people would check their email if they are on the mailing list. Thanks.

Roy's reading off the cue cards is almost as bad as Gary Sinese's in "Mission: Space". I thought the message came across as a little insincere. Never forget that the majority of Roy's wealth comes from his Disney stock. I tend to think he is trying to curry favor with the Disnoids who complain about every little thing that Disney does in order to get his way. Wasn't Roy quoted as saying that he knew for a fact that Walt would love DCA? Now, I personally like DCA as a nice diversion from Disneyland, but isn't it a little hypocritical for Roy to now hold DCA up as an example of what Disney is doing wrong?

Regardless, DCA IS representative of much that is wrong with Disney.

If you are going to hold management types to every public relations statement they make, you might as well denounce them all, which puts us right back where we started.

Now they are asking the SEC to CHANGE existing rules so that it will be more favorable to them? I don't remember them having a problem with this rule BEFORE they wanted to vote against Eisner.
Regardless, its up to the SEC. If they were to change it, your problem would be with them.

I doubt they really expect the rule to be changed anyway, but were using the request as a way to publicize how broker votes are handled, and why getting a 50% withhold vote would be pretty unrealsitic. Without that understanding, a lot of people would view a 30% withhold (for example) as inconsequential.

Has the Disney board ever done so in the past? Again, the rules should change NOW, when they never had a problem with this before...when the "non-votes" were cast for their membership on the board?
Its only an issue when there is a serious challenge to the board recommendations. There was no reason to do it in the past. That said, again, its more of a way to educate the public that 20 or 30% is a significant percentage in these types of votes.

You know the old saying "nothing ventured, nothing gained"

I doubt they expected the SEC to do it, but who knows, they might have if asked.

It's a smart move.

wdw4us2...I'm reposting the link....there is NOTHING "insincere" about it.....the message comes from the heart and people deserve to be able to hear it!!!! There is nothing to be "disturbed" by in the message. Kids of all ages can see it with confidence.

Goofyposter,

You are mistaken....Your link is NOT the link that appeared (and was removed from) the OP. That is why is was confusing. The link in the OP was not a link to Roy message.

Hi there,
I am on the savedisney mailing list, and regularly get e-mails from them, however I haven't had the personal greeting video at all.
Is there another way to get it. I have tried searching their site, but cannot find it listed. If anyone could post me a link it would be very much appreciated.
thanks
Jacksdad
