Is there any news of how the Adventure will get to Singapore?

If the Suez Canal continues to be avoided by cruises - and sailing around the tip of South Africa can be rough, will they sail from Germany to the US (doing the typical working TA crossing) for photo ops and a press junket, sail through the Panama Canal, across the Pacific - possibly stopping at Honolulu - and then into Singapore?

It would give a lot of options and legs for N American guests to experience here before she is geographically out of reach to many of us.

I don’t know if she’ll fit under the Bridge of Americas for the canal - she looks to be taller than the Dream and Fantasy which should fit but barely.

I think they would have to take her around South Africa.

That would be incredible if it did happen. :)

If you followed the original discussions, it was stated when the "GLOBAL DREAM" was started, they brought in a special 125 meter (410 ft) crane to build it.

That doesn’t mean she is 410ft above the waterline though, she’d be basically twice the height of the Dream class if that was the case.

NO, but it required a special crane to build it.

If you watched the video of the Treasure float out you would see the size of the building it was constructed in and the crane next to it as compared to it's height. That building and crane are not double the height of the ship. So the Adventure is a lot taller. My guess is close to the new RCL ships. EDIT: It has 19 decks compared to the Dream and Fantasy at 14 and Wonder of the Seas at 18.

I don’t know the specifications of the Adventure but height is not the only concern. The expanded locks can only handle ships smaller than:

A quick search suggests the Adventure would be OK on Length/Beam/Draft but almost 2x the maximum tonnage. I can’t easily find a reference for its height.

I’m betting the delivery cruise will be limited to employees, their families, press and special invited guests.

Cruise lines tend to be inconsistent when it comes to scheduling deliver voyages as revenue or private fixations. Heck, same applies to dry dock.

Royal and Carnival both sent their LA-home ported ships to Singapore for dry dock this year. Royal went earlier this year but did not take refenue passengers. Carnival is going later this month and is. Return is 25-days (26 because you’re crossing the date line) and a family of four can get an interior cabin right now for just over $3K. Crazy.

I found articles in German when it was built about the midship section being delivered from a shipyard in Rostock to the one in Wismar where the Adventure is now. There it states that the midship section is 57 m high. It doesn’t say if that’s total height or above the water line. But this is just to the pool deck. So you will need to add the height of the funnel. The draft is 9.5 meter, I think the funnels will be considerably higher. So, if the 57 m were total height, minus the draft would be 47.5 meters. So there would only be room for a 10.4 m funnel.

I am guessing that she won’t fit.

So, the number above is the air draft height - distance from the waterline to the topmost item. If I recall (and I may be wrong) the height listed above is for MLL (Mean low/low water) for tides. It's a reference point for Captains/Masters so they can time their approach should it be tight. Adventure should fit

TEU is a shipping container term. TEU is "Twenty Foot Equivalent" units which measures the number/amount of cargo a cargo ship can carry. Shipping containers are (surprise!) 20 feet long. Actually, their just short of 20 feet, but work with me here. And of course, there are 40 footers too.

Ships are usually measured by mass (displacement) or carrying capacity (TEU). A standard container can carry approximately 60,000 pounds or 30 tons. Weight, however, is not displacement.

All this to say that Adventure will have no problem getting through the locks. That being said, it's my professional opinion that should the Red Sea still be too hazardous to transit when her time comes, they'll take her around the Cape of Good Hope (Horn of Africa), as it's MUCH faster, and therefore cheaper. Fuel isn't free, and time is money. The Cape gets really nasty in Dec/Jan. I forget when they need to bring her around, but the Cape is probably the route if the Red Sea is too dangerous..

The average deck is 11.5 ft to 12.5 (allowing for mechanicals in the ceiling) so splitting the difference and using 12 ft, with 19 decks that would be 228 ft +/- plus the stacks. Here are the other specs.

The Bridge of the Americas is only 201' above the water at high tide.

I was hoping for an engineering answer. I didn’t realize that ship height was not easy to find. I find draft, knowing to subtract it to get clearance under bridges. But am missing that one point of info. Because is is vital that I, personally, am contributing to DCL’s plans for ship movement. 🤭

NCL Bliss did get delivered to AK, via the canal. It seems they can lower their smoke stacks, somehow.

If they could get through the canal, it seems like an excellent opportunity to show off the ship. But maybe just getting it to its destination sooner, not having to make any tourist port calls, might be more economical.

And just realized they will be getting a lot of new Cast Members when this ship gets staffed. If they truly are Asian-market focused, the transit time might be useful in orienting them to the ship and the Disney cruise approach. Wonder how many employees will come from the existing staff?

I agree, why that info is so hard to find is a mystery to me as well.

Have they released any information about when she'll be available to book?

One other point to consider. Her height above the water line will also be dependent on the number of crew, passengers and provisions onboard when they transition.

That will be amazing if the end up deciding to bring on 5000 American tourists so they can shimmy under the bridge— count us in!
