Rounding up spare cash- what am I forgetting?

Buy a spindle of blank cd's and burn copies of your husband's music...sell off the originals! He can still keep his music and you can get the extra money from selling the original ones.

Funny you should mention that! I have been doing exactly that for a little over a week. So far, I've sold 6 CDs that we've uploaded to iTunes, and brought in $54!!!! We've also begun selling VHS tapes (yes, we still have some ) from when my kids were little (think Blue's Clues, Sesame Street, etc.). Those have brought in about another $15 for 7 videos. Not a whole lot, but I'll never use them again, and now they aren't taking up space in my house!

How about taking an online defensive driving class to reduce your ins. premium?

Hmmm...I will see if anything like that is offered...Cause now that we are debt free, we need to build a bigger emergency fund and then.... Disney :cool1:

How did you sell your VHS tapes? I've got a huge stash, not sure what to do with them.

Dannielle, I just put them up for sale at Half.com (it's an eBay partner site). You put in the ISBN # from the back of the video case, and enter the condition of your video, and Half.com will give you a price range to offer your item. Just pick a price range for your video, and then wait for it to sell. You're given a reimbursement for shipping in addition to the price of your item (usually around $2.50, so it's best to ship your items Media Mail)

FYI, it's worth your time to check both Amazon and Half before listing an item, since sometimes the same item will fetch a higher price on one site than the other.

Good luck!

Jeez, people! Did I kill this thread with my last post? Drat!

Just checking in....last night, DD and I took our "Disney jar" change to a Coinstar machine and ended up with $112! Not bad, considering that the jar was only about 1/3 full.

Also, I've sold several items on Amazon, with a net profit of almost $300 in the past 3 weeks!

I really have to get myself in gear and sell a bunch of kids' clothing. We have several dresses that my DD got as gifts, but never wore. Several still have their tags. And my DS has some video games he wants me to sell for him too....mostly stuff he no longer uses.

C'mon, ladies...someone give me some more ideas now!

Well, the other day when cleaning out a filing cabinet, I found an old payroll check DH had never cashed. ...He still works there so we're waiting to see if they will pay him.

I received a pre-paid priority mail box in the mail yesterday for the cell phone; I will let you know how the transaction goes.

Since its been a couple weeks, have you heard from the co? Also did you pull out the sim card before you mailed it so none of your call info was still in the phone?

My iphone did not store contacts on the sim card; we restored it to factory defaults before we sent it in.

They said it took 45 days after confirmed receipt of the phone, I think that puts me somewhere around May 15 before I start to worry.

I sold plasma in college and I don't have a scar. A bunch of my friends did it also. You can try a few times and think of it this way - what if *you* were the person who needed someone else's plasma? A little scar in exchange for life wouldn't seem so bad then, would it? :goodvibes

I actually can't due to a medical condition. My DH does give blood, but just to help people. I honestly don't even know where you can sell plasma around here.

Giving blood and blood products is certainly noble, just not something I was considering as a way to earn $.

You can save money by not using the Coinstar machine.

Our local banks will give you coin wrappers for free. One bank has a coin counting machine that customers, with an account at that bank, may use for free.

Well I have to say very disappointed in cell for cash. Have not heard anything back and they aren't responding to customer service emails.

Have you considered contacting the Better Business Bureau?

I found an extensive thread on another board where most reported no luck through the BBB but some luck through the FL AG's office so I many try that.

Our bank had a coin thing there (like coin star). It is free to use if you are a member. I found out last year when I took in all of my rolled change (around $200) that they would not take wrapped coins. :scared1: (This is what i looked like when she told me) I could not believe I spent all my time sorting and wrapping coins. Just a FYI to check with your bank so you do not waist your time like I did.

That stinks, I hope you get it sorted out and get your money! If you have any other electronics or media to sell, try Gazelle.com. I sold my old laptop through them & it went very smoothly. They e-mailed me a pre-paid shipping label to send it to them, and I got the check in about a week after they received it. Only got $75 for it, but it was about 6 years old so pretty obsolete as far as laptops go.

Also for future you can see if your cell service provider has a buy-back program for old phones. We have Sprint and I got a $25 credit on my bill for sending them my old phone (they pay for shipping too).

I am loving this thread right now as I've booked 2 Disney cruises for next year. We have the money to pay off both of them but I'd like to pay them with found money instead of using our vacation fund. That would be a nice surprise for dh.

I know I've got at least $80 in change. I need to sell my Disney Dooney sketch bag and wristlet that I've never used. That should bring in about $240. I'd like to have a yard sale but it's too hot now (in Az) so I'll have to wait until Oct for that.

I don't start working again until school starts in Aug so no paychecks until then.

I might have some old gold pieces to sell. Will have to look into that.

That's all I've got for now. Maybe I'll take a look at some stuff around my house and get my butt listing on ebay.
