Round 1, Match 6: Snow White vs Sleeping Beauty

This week, it's vintage Disney as his first full length feature production goes up against his beautifully marvelous medieval classic.

Although Sleeping Beauty castle is THE icon of DL, I voted for Snow White. I just think that it was truly the beginning of something wonderfully magical and without it, things might have been much different for Walt.

Very hard choice - Snow White is SO significant historically. But the Eyvind Earle art design for Sleeping Beauty and the gorgeous Marc Davis designed Aurora and Maleficient win out for me

I really like them both, but I like Sleeping Beauty a teeny tiny bit more.

For some reason, I always thought of these films being pretty alike. Maybe it's because they both go into a Coma and can only be woken via true love's kiss. Either way, I liked Sleeping Beauty quite a bit better. Aurora is one of my favorite princesses. I just wish the fight at the end between the Prince and the Dragon would have lasted longer and been more epic.

As classic as Snow White is, the Evil Queen/Old Woman always scared me to death (still do), so I'm going with Sleeping Beauty!

Personally, after recently watching both of these films, Sleeping Beauty gets my vote. It was amazing and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was really wonderful! I loved how they wisked her away to the forest, but she could always walk right to the forest's edge to view the castle. There was something about that, that was so eerie. Perhaps the thought that Malefecent could see her or something. But regardless, it was great!

Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs is the most important film Walt Disney ever made historically speaking. It's a joy to watch. But I couldn't vote for it against my favorite Disney film ever. I wonder if Disney will ever be able to top the climax of Sleeping Beauty. I read recently that the dragon fight sequence in Sleeping Beauty is considered to be one of the greatest achievements ever in 70mm film.
