My folks had two issues on Friday & Monday:
Friday: My grandmother left a message that my grandfather was in the hospital, but didn't explain why. My folks called the house & my cousin (who is on drugs) told my folks that my grandfather was in a coma, but she didn't know where he was or anything. My folks were frantic, as my grandfather is in his 80s & he has alzheimers. My mom was calling all the Orange County area hospitals to find out where he is, while my father was looking for flights out there. My father finally got a hold of my grandmother & she was talking in a rather calm matter & it turns out that he hurt his hip. They were still upset for him, but very relieved it wasn't what they were first lead to believe.
Monday: My mom left a message stating "Uhm, guys, I don't know if you heard the news or not, but dad & I are ok. There was a shooting at one of the models & we wanted you to know we're okay".
I called her right back. She couldn't really get in depth as they were at the model when I called. Basically a woman had gone to work & this afternoon her husband walked into her model, shot & killed her & killed himself. This was someone my father had trained (in new home sales you usually only work with 1 other person on a daily basis) for months. He knew her fairly well & she & my mom were on a first name basis. I'll get more information on the situation when I call my folks again.
Those of you in the DFW area may have seen the report, though the cops aren't really airing the information (names, relationship, company, etc.) for investigative reasons. Her name was Sheila. They had 2 teenage sons that were left behind. In cases like this I almost think it's easier when the kids are younger & don't fully grasp the ramifications of what happened.
Anyway, here's a report:
