Rough seas question

Best place to avoid motion on a ship is low down (deck 2 or 3) and in the center of the ship.

My first cruise in '84? was on the NCL Sunward II. 400+ feet long. We hit a gale and had 20-30 foot waves. Bottles crashing, tables overturned, dishes in restaurant broken. Heck, even my son left the top bunk not of his own free will (guess we should have strapped him in).

We had a blast (wife and myself) looking out over the bridge, watching the waves crash onto the bow. Stayed up till about 3 am looking. Most people were sick in their bed.

Slept like a log with the gentle rocking of the ship once we went to bed. Only ship not to have ambulances waiting on the pier the next morning in Miami when we docked.

Was an excellent cruise. (Sound like I'm really out there some where, huh?) Been on 15 cruises since and still going "back to sea".

Give me my Bonine and sea bands and I'll be hanging out with you and your DW, LVTravel! I love incliment weather, just so exciting!!!!!!! (no wonder my DS is a future weatherman/storm chaser!)

I didn't know that you could use the Sea Bands AND Bonine together! That is good to know, because I will be sure to have both. Thanks rae519

We stayed in the Aft section Room 6154 on the Wonder 3 day Feb. 27 & felt the ship rocking the night we were heading for Nassau. We were told it was the speed of the ship & the Gulf Stream, By around 3 AM the rocking stopped. We also felt a little bit of movement in the Disney Theater that evening. The only other time we felt any movement was when we were heading back to port from CC, but it was nothing like the 1st night. Maybe it was Deck 6 & the Aft Section. Anyway, none of us became sick. We can't wait to go back. ( I also love the Ship's Horn..When you wish upon a star!)

A few years ago DH,2-DD's and myself sailed on a Carnival Cruise during a hurricane. Many cancelled before we left port, so we were upgraded to the biggest suite on ship. The swells were so large, that our high balcony was getting hit with water. When we finally arrived at our 1st port, 1/3 of the passengers checked off and flew home. This was the roughest waters we've come across. During that trip for about 16 hours we rocked, dipped and plunged. It was scary, but we were assured that the stabilizers would prevail. Usually when you experience rough water, it is only temporary and you could sway in any direction!

Hey, Cathie:

We were on the ship on the 27th of Feb also. I didn't feel the ship rocking too much. (see my other post this thread).

We are going back to the Wonder's sister ship in January.

We couldn't wait to go back.

Bonine is medication, sea bands are acupressure. Look, if it keeps me from being nauseated, I'd do a voodoo dance!!

My DH is a true believer in them. Poor guy was born land locked in Upstate NY...never on the water before cruising with Disney. He felt a little off this last cruise so he put them on and what a difference they made. And what peace of mind they gave me! ;)

Hi Lvtravel Just wondering which deck you were on & section of the ship. Because we travel with a handicapped friend we need to stay either in the front of the ship or the aft. ( I don't think there any handicapped rooms in the middle). We should be planning our next cruise soon. Wasn't CC beautiful? :Pinkbounc

rae519,
Where excactly does the little bumpy thing go on your wrist? Sorry but I cannot figure out the instructions that came with the bands.

The way it was explained to me was to bend you hand toward you, there is a little bone in the middle you can feel and one toward your thumb, the button goes in that spot. That is where I have worn it two different cruises and it has worked. Don't know if this is correct but it helps me.

If you take your pulse with two fingers over the wrist - the top finger being against the bottom of your hand - the bumpy thing will sit just below your two fingers.

(I hope I said that right!) - there are two tendons that it goes between at that spot on the inside of your wrist area.

Also, for Laura 24 - I'm another "landlocked born New Yorker" - but grew up on the Hudson River south of Albany.

Thank God the conversation is switching to sea band placement. You guys are SCARING me BIG TIME with the talk of 20-30 ft. waves! Lets talk about happy things so I can have a "Disney Day".

We had a few rough times. One night the closet door kept opening and closing with the light going on and the hangers banging! We laid there and laughed. It was great! We've never missed a port but excursions have been cancelled because of rough seas. When we were in Cozumel last, a ship trying to dock next to us never made it and finally gave up and was sent away. Where they actually went, who knows!

Rae....
DH was just a little more landlocked than you....50 miles NW of Albany in the little old town of Randall.(outside of Amsterdam.)

A very nice area there- does DH miss it?
I miss everything about New York. If I could move back there, I'd do it in a New York minute!!!

I used to cheerlead at Herkimer College - a little past there.
But that was a very, very long time ago!

Hi Rae.
Yes, it is definitely beautiful country. DH has family there so we visit now and then. We have a couple acres of land that may entice us back.If only the winters weren't so rough!Herkimer.......are you familiar with the Herkimer Diamonds? They are excavated in various spots of Herkimer County and could be the real thing if you didn't know better....diamonds are a girls best friend!!!;)

Small world, isn't it?! Ohhh, yes, the diamonds!!!! I forgot! It's been so long since I've been home. I do miss it so very much though!
Always wanted my DS to be an Orangeman at Syracuse!

Well, tell DH for me that this landlocked New Yorker thinks cruising is "most excellent" and he will love it!!!!!!
