I think the "rub" that's developing is more of the lines of:
"So Disney doesn't think what made Star Wars great isn't good enough anymore - they think it's some kinda racist/sexist fanboy stuff so they are throwing it too much in another direction"
I see Both sides of it...although I don't care who the characters are if the stories are good...there is a danger in trying to "correct" slights from 40 years ago that weren't slights at the time.
Also...there's the "product" angle...nobody trusts Disneys intentions when it comes to consumer products - nor should they if we're honest.
They also made a female the new central character to the series and then didn't release any product for her. Trying to have it both ways.
I was really happy with how Disney approached Star Wars at first...for the 3 years...but now I'm seeing some cracks in the armor.
It occurred to me during the oscars...of course they were gonna do the cheesy droid thing...but when they had Abrams do best director?
He was out of his league...the whole room knew they punted on the story. And they didn't even win the tech categories.
They're gonna have to do "better". And that means some new, solid stories - not bells and whistles. They need to take it backward to move it forward. It's really just the legacy of the prequels. It's not as much of a a slam dunk in people's minds as it once was.
Money is still good though
