rotten cat!

I don't feel guilt over the decision, just saddened that she wasn't able to be friendlier, as we'd have still had her if the antisocialness wasn't there.

My cat had issues when DH and I first moved in together. He also brought a cat into the relationship and neither of them got along. I even took them to a pet "psychologist" to try and deal with the problems because my cat was peeing on my dresser he was so mad and they would constantly fight. Years later, DH's cat ran away, and now my cat is happy. The harmony in the house is good for dear ol' Chappy. But I used to have SO much stress and anxiety over the fact they couldn't get along it was a nightmare.

I'm sure that must have been so difficult for you. Wish your experience with her could have been a better one.

Regardless, I don't think you should be commended for what you did. I just can't understand how anyone has an animal for 13 years and makes such a difficult decision with ease...I don't understand how having children somehow changes things for so many people and turns their animals from family members to pests.

Wow. No offense, but you sound so judgemental, Rupert. How do you know that Wmharley didn't have difficulty making the decision to put down his pet? What makes you think it was done with such ease? Were you there? Were you living under the conditions he and his wife were? Do you have any children?

I love my cat. He is like my first child. But I'm sorry, my HUMAN children will always come first and I would never jeopardize my human children's safety or the cleanliness of their environment for a pet no matter how much I love the pet.

Perhaps you are mistaking the poster's paraphrasing of his situation in this thread for lack of compassion for animals.

the cat is a tonkinese.. he was fixed and declawed before i got him.
apparently he has papers with the previous owner. but i was not interested in them because he is our pet. we do not show him , and we cant breed him.. (hes missing pieces LOL)

i think what happened is when i moved the box upstairs he liked the spot. when i put the box back downstairs he got all angry with it..
so to fixz it.. i put the box back.. presto.. hes not peed anywhere other then the box since yesterday.. i hope it works..:woohoo:

i was about to write a listing for craigslist and my husband stopped me. he knows i love this dang cat and would be hearthbroken..

he just had a check up about a month ago so i dont think its medical.. its straight attitude

i have cleaned the area well with the hydro proxide solution thata previous poster recommended. tonight ill run to pet store for some urine remover and the black light.

thanks :worship:

We have had our cat do this over the years a few times. It NEVER NEVER NEVER comes out completely, this is true.

If it's on the couch, your best bet would be to clean it as thoroughly as possible & then use a blanket to cover it.

I've used this on dog pee with good results, Kids 'n' Pets. It's non-toxic and has gotten smells/stains (including blood) out of varous fabrics including carpet and furnature. I've seen it at Target but you can also order online if you can't find it.

Just for future reference - it is proven that if you declaw your cat that they usually develop anger issues - mainly because they cannot use their claws to warn others. Not to mention if you see the surgery done, you will never get it done again...Regardless, I don't think you should be commended for what you did. I just can't understand how anyone has an animal for 13 years and makes such a difficult decision with ease. All of my animals are here to stay until they die or are so close to death that they are suffering and need to be helped so that they die peacefully. Sure, they piss me off on regular occassions and yes, some are not very friendly to the vets but when I got them I committed to raising them their entire lives not part of them or until they weren't convenient anymore. As I have said before, you can't do that with kids, and animals should be no different. There are behaviorists, and other resources to help with difficult animals. No one will ever be euthanized before it is their time. I don't understand how having children somehow changes things for so many people and turns their animals from family members to pests.
The cat was declawed as a kitten. i've known many declawed cats that are friendly and just lie down and get along with everyone. To say the declaw was the cause is wrong. She had plenty of ways to warn, and we heard them all.

I'm glad you are the pet whisperer, and I'm glad you think this was done with ease. considering the cat was my wife's pre-marriage, and the fact I had to talk HER out of not getting rid of the cat on several previous occasions, i'm mean.

I work with mental health researchers, and there are times parents have to turn the kids over in order to get them help. they are no less caring or heartless than anyone else. 3

I'm sure that must have been so difficult for you. Wish your experience with her could have been a better one.

I initially didn't want this cat, but she would always sleep on my side and get on my lap. She basically was my cat at the end and try as we did to place her, it was very hard. I was a mess for the rest of the day and for a few afterwards..

I am glad that I came across as that. It was my intention. His original comment shows his lack of compassion. Putting down a cat should never be discussed that casually. Saying solution was killing your cat is insensitive and uncalled for. I would never casually joke about any animal in that way. I find it absolutely offensive. I don't care about the circumstances - or whether someone liked their animal or not. That is in poor taste to discuss things like that. It is just too easy to throw away an animal...

We will have to agree to disagree. I think you need to step back and put yourself in the other person's shoes. Perhaps he really didn't want to get into the entire story. Rupert, it's a shame that you can't show the same compassion toward people that you do to your pets. Your judgemental attitude it equally as offensive.

Hope you have a better day.

I have to agree with the posters that wrote that cat pee NEVER comes completely out. It is an intense, horrific smell. My friends cat peed on their matress suring their move. My friends husband is famously cheap. He was convinced it was salvagable. He bought multiple products, a UV light, was on the web searching...trying all sorts of things. Finally after 3 days he threw in the towel and they bought a new matress set. At least you don't have to sleep on the sofa!

AS for the person who stated that they would not ever get rid of a cat under any circumstance...well that is just crazy. I love my animals, but I would never, ever keep an animal that would endanger my baby. Human children come first, period.
