RotR Planning & Daily Boarding Group Discussion - *CLOSED*

Call me a Disney apologist or whatever you want but I’m not surprised by any of this. Many of us have been saying on the boards and other places to expect downtime. We of course didn’t know there would be an attraction only boarding group however we thought they would use it for the land so not completely different. Disney also decided to do that on opening day.

If you have been following here you also should’ve known to be patient and get their early. These boards are all about getting the best plan and strategy and getting their early before park opening was. I certainly never expected no boarding groups and a 100% perfect opening. Not many attractions do have that these days. A day like today will only help the ride in the future and Cast as they learn from this.

the only issue would be if you (or others) ripped Universal for opening Hagrids when it was still having technical issues but then have no problem with Disney opening a ride that still has technical issues. Not saying you are, but just following on social media it does seems like people were more critical at Universal than at Disney (at least so far)

To me they are similar and both should have opened as like "soft openings" or be very upfront that they are still working out the kinks and expect down times, etc. Seems like Disney is doing a little bit of that in the messaging about boarding groups and indicating getting a boarding number doesn't guaratee a ride, but still I thikn they could have been more upfront about that aspect

I'm so so sorry. It is hideous what Disney are doing. They have known for months but would not risk empty hotels over the holidays.

I'm late to the party, I wasn't really following stuff... So you mean to say there is a problem with the ride, it's not ready, Disney knows, but decided to just go ahead with opening it anyways?

it is a very technical ride, systems that have never been done before, etc. - basically no way for it to be 100% before they opened to a full crowd and worked through it. It isn't dangerous or anything, it's just first of it's kind

Personally I think they should be more up front about it being a "soft" or "technical" opening - but at some point they have to open it and new rides will have issues

I’m thinking it’s definitely down again. They haven’t changed from boarding 30 I’m 32. And line isn’t as long as it has been

That they do. I remember when racers regularly broke down in its first few months and would take 45-60 min to reset and this happened a couple of times a day.

I will admit that I was critical with Universal on the boards for the handling of Hagrids and I will be of Disney if it turns into a Hagrids situation. New rides are going to have issues no matter how much of a soft opening you have. There is no getting around that. The main problem will be if its constantly breaking down after a few days or even the first week. Hagrids had to go to a limited schedule with delayed openings and early closings. They are still having to close the ride early every day.

I have a friend that’s currently inside and they haven’t mentioned it breaking down. My guess is they aren’t adjusting numbers for crowd flow reasons. They called a bunch of groups at once.

And we are out! My husband can now wear his hat haha.

It is simply amazing. Jaw dropping in some parts. It’s so fluid. Amazing technology.

Sorry for the frustrated messages earlier and thanks for your patience with me!

How is it do you think, for someone who struggles with motion sickness? Can you compare it to say Star Tours?

Agree with you 100%. Again it's a question of should they have opened it now or kept waiting to see if they could fix the problems.

This is absolutely nothing new. Most of the time, a new and very technically advanced ride will have some issues the first month or so it's open. It's been the case before, and it will be the case for many rides to come.

Now I will agree with those people on here criticizing those who called out Universal for the Hagrid's thing but are choosing to defend Disney.

I started hitting join boarding party at resort and stayed in the app, we were in the security line when we were able to join. Sorry for the confusion, tired and excited.
So MDE may be using geofencing and park proximity to allow guests to enter boarding groups rather than solely entering the tapstile? Or MDE just glitched and let you in?

Does only one person need to join a boarding group for the entire party? Can i just add my connected family on MDE to the boarding pass? So theoretically I could wait in line by myself and get a pass for all of us?

It all depends on how much its down. FEA was a disaster opening. It was down more than it was up. Same with Test Track. If RotR is on that path, Disney deserves all the criticism it gets. I think its too early to defend or criticize Disney on this.
