ROTR - First half of the ride down

We were disappointed to wait an hour in LL line for ROTR only to walk directly into the stormtrooper room. Wish they'd offer refund when ride is only partially operational.
Typical for Disney unfortunately. I bet if you asked for a refund they would deny you. Maybe you could try a CC chargeback.

I’d have been griping at a blue umbrella for sure. Did you try to ask for a replacement ILL for later?

Sorry that happened. First time we rode, in 2020, that whole first section was missing. we also walked right into the Stormtrooper room. We had avoided spoilers/videos, etc. so we didn't really know , but I did think there was supposed to be a Rey hologram somewhere. After that first ride, we thought it was fun, but weren't sure what all the hype was about, or what was happening. We missed half the story. ha. Also, this was when you had to be in the park, trying desperately to get a BG and all of that. We even cancelled our next day park reservation. Didn't think it was worth the hassle. Luckily have gotten to have full ride experiences since. Glad that wasn't your first/only time on it!

What's B mode?
I hadn't heard the phrase "B mode" before reading a bunch of threads here. When something in a ride / attraction isn't working right, there may be an alternative "B mode". For example, the Yeti in Expedition Everest used to be an animatronic, but for years now it has been in "B mode" with the disco strobe light on a stationary Yeti.

Last Sunday when I did RotR, BB-8 was not working in the pre-show room. Normally Rey has an interaction with him, but in B-mode, he never showed up and she never addressed him. The shuttle craft was working, so we had a proper caught-in-tractor-beam trip before going into the Stormtrooper room / hangar deck. And in the second half, the ion cannons were stationary, and none of the animatronics were working: Finn, Kylo, etc. Instead of seeing Kylo getting sucked into space, we saw the B-mode video of him in a fighter ship outside.

RotR is one of my favorite rides, and I'm glad I've had some chances to do it when everything was working. It has a lot of moving elements, and it is not surprising that there are times when not everything is working and you get some B modes.

Yes but RotR is a ILL attraction that you have to pay extra to ride (if you want).... for that extra fee it ought to be working - or your money back. I get that general tickets don't hold a promise that every attraction will be operating.

One of our more recent trips was the same... you walk straight through the Rey preshow, and are directed to a backstage hallway that takes you to the Storm Trooper hanger. There were also a few other effects not work in the ride like Kylo. While neat in a way, the backstage hallway ruins the whole "show".

At this point I think they need to theme that hallway, as it seems to be a more common experience these days.... Computer or system running the preshow and the ship simulator must be tied together....
