Rather than posting the whole plot, I'll let people answer questions. This thread may have a lot of spoilers and I won't try to hide information, so if you don't want to know - CLOSE THIS NOW.....

If one has read the book, are there really any spoilers to be revealed? I guess I would just ask if it is faithful to Tolkien's novel.

We are really looking foward to seeing The Return of the King. These are some of the most visually rewarding films I've ever seen. So far, I've no complaints about the adaptations either.

Did you enjoy ROTK Crisi?

Minor differences - no Eowyn Faromir romance for instance. Aragorn does not call in the Rangers - far as we can tell from the movies he's it. Aragorn doesn't get his sword until this movie. No Scourging of the Shire. Some of these changes are huge to Tolkien geeks, but none of them have bothered me too much (well, except that whole falling off the cliff thing from TT - unnecessary). But no big spoilers if you have read the books. However, not everyone has read the books.

okay, I'm not a big Tolkein geek but I'm already disappointed about what they left out...so what, no love for Eowyn? I was sure they would leave that in for some reason. Same with the scourge of the shire.

Well, the movie runs about three hours, twenty minutes....something had to go.

Eowyn kicks some serious ......... however.

Oh, Tess, I missed your question.

Yes, I enjoyed it. It had some weak moments, but there were also times I clapped for joy.

I was wondering when they would give him his sword!!! I thought it odd and rather stupid not to get it in TT. Actually I don't know why they changed some of those gifts they got at Lothlorien. My biggest issue is with the character Faramir in general... not shocking they'd change the story line around him more.

Is it really true that Christopher Lee is not in this movie? I can't see how that can be :(

OMG, its that long? Ack! Normally not a problem, but being pregnant makes it a whole nother ballgame. Looking forward to it, though :)

Yep, Christopher Lee ended up on the cutting room floor. He'll be back for the extended edition.

Peter Jackson has said some things that make you understand why he changed Faramir - basically, in that establishing that the ring was so powerful it would corrupt Aragorn or Gandalf and its nearness corrupted Boromir to have Faramir not be tempted at all didn't make sense. Is Faramir that much more pure than Aragorn? So they gave him a struggle. It also added a little conflict for Frodo and Sam - other than trudge-trudge-whine.

Oh shoot :( I guess I will have to wait a year to see Christopher Lee then.

I had heard that they changed Faramir because they were leaving out Shelob's Lair until ROTK (didn't feel they could have put that much with Helms Deep in there) and needed to have some conflict for Sam & Frodo, but didn't hear the part about the purity with Faramir. I guess actually hearing that bothers me a bit because Faramir was like an anti-Boromir... a total opposite of his brother.

I also hated that they killed of Haldir... totally unnecessary in my mind. But that's all TT stuff. In general I think he's doing a decent job of getting the books to movie, but wish he hadn't made some of the big changes he did.

Although knowing that the movie is 3 hours 20 minutes makes me wonder how long the extended version will be!!!

Shelob is an hour into ROTK..... I was thinking that it would be pretty much the first thing. The pacing of the Frodo Sam stuff is so much slower because so much other stuff has to happen with the other plots.

The movie could be called "Triumph of the Hobbits" rather than "Return of the King" This is really about the Hobbits being heros. Not much Gimli or (sorry Orly fans) Legolas at all - about as much as you saw Merry and Pippin in TT. (Though Legolas does get one sequence of "cool elf tricks")

An hour into ROTK??? Really? Interesting... how long is that sequence anyway? I am deathly afraid of spiders :o
