Rotating Masks in hot weather?

Disclaimer, this is not for you to argue wearing a mask. No one cares if you cancelled your trip or aren't going because of mask policies. Good, more room for others. You can't go anywhere today without wearing one. Get over it.

With that said I have a question and I'm looking for insight.

For any of you that have worn a mask during the warmer days and months at the park have you found that switching them throughout the day helps with comfort? We are heading in June so it's obviously going to be hot and sweaty.

For example on the golf course I switch gloves every 4 holes. At Disney I've been known to carry an extra pair of socks. There is no better feeling than a fresh pair of socks. I'm guessing that a mask switch throughout the day would be a good thing.

I was in The World in September. Crazy hot. And rained.

I only needed to change my mask after a hard rain. I used a cloth mask and could hardly breath when it got soaking wet. I had four with me for the first two days and never needed to change then to help with comfort. So for the rest of my trip I just had the one.

Sounds like bringing extra masks and switching them throughout the day will be perfect for you.

I planned for 2 masks per day (cloth masks). I would switch out my mask mid-day when we went back to the room for a mid-day break. I found it more comfortable to put on a clean mask when we went back out in the evening.

I carried cloth 3 with me and switched back & forth. I do not like disposables I do not care for the straight across styles with my glasses.

I only wound up using one a day in late Sept./early Oct. We had some very hot days, but the mask never got overly sweaty or gross. I did carry a few spares with me just in case, but never wound up using them. I washed the mask in the sink at night and rotated two masks over 10 park days.

We went in August with record heat (right after the hurricane passed Cape Canaveral). I wore one cloth mask and carried two at all times. I usually switched out 1/2 way through the day or after we rode Splash Mountain (the chemicals in the water were particularly irritating on the mask). More important than what kind of mask I would say is proper fit. We saw a couple of people who looked absolutely miserable as they tried to keep the mask up over their nose. I'm sure getting the constant reminders from the CM's didn't help. Just be sure you have one that fits really well and won't slip - problem solved.

We went to Universal in late August, each of us had 6 and we'd take 3 to the parks each day. Two probably would have been fine.

I’m buying disposable paper masks for options. All of us already have cloth masks. It can get nasty at the end of the day. So why not change mid day?

Thanks everyone for your responses. This is exactly the information I was looking for.

I've been wearing masks from u-mask and they breath well and fit fantastic. They don't make you overheat like cloth masks so I think a couple of those and some extra filters will be fine. They aren't cheap but I've found that you pay for quality and if I have to wear it why not be comfortable.

Local here...

I carry a box of paper mask in the car... and we have found wearing the paper mask in the heat and humidity for us work sooo much better than any others that we have tried... a couple a day per person should do it while in the parks.

A few other suggestions for you... breath mints, life savers, peppermints, cough drops for mask mouth, we found that the cough drops help open up your sinuses, and help you breathe easier... chap stick or some type of lip balm helps keep your lips from drying out.

Dealing with sunscreen and wearing a mask is challenging... I would suggest using a face sunscreen something like Neutrogena, and applying it before you leave the hotel room so that it has time to set, before throwing the mask on, don't forget to cover your ears with sunscreen.

As well, even before Covid we have been using face wipes when taking a break, letting your face dry completely, before re-applying more sunscreen... We use them to wipe off neck and arms as well, its does make me at least feel not so wilted down, and it does re-fresh you quite nicely, as well, I tired the deodorant wipes last year, and they did work well... I have a couple of ziplocs in my day bag, and I mark them with whats in each bag, saves space and not as heavy.

Use the relaxation stations they are a life saver, and plan on more breaks with lots of water or sports drinks..

Have a great trip...

We went in July and found the disposable masks were the best. They were much more light weight and breathable so maybe take some options and see what works best for you.

This is so true. As an almost sun-phobic pale redhead, I BELIEVE in sunscreen. My first fabric masks still smell like sunscreen no matter how I clean them. We went to Six Flags when they opened in July in Texas.
My current batch are made out of SPF 50 fabric.

Have you tired oxyclean spray... I hand wash ours, I spray them down and let sit a couple of minutes, and rinse in hot water... so far it has taken the smell out of ours...

Weirdly, that is the one thing I haven't tried. I keep forgetting I have some.
