I have read about this, and we are going on our first cruise in March. I understand that it is a different room each night and the staff follow you. But does the meal change depending on the location. Is there menus to read ahead of time to see what we could ask for instead.

There is a different menu every night.

Let's say you're taking a 7 night cruise. The first 3 nights each dining room serves it's own Signature menu. Leaving 4 other nights. On those nights all the dining rooms serve the same menu. For that 7 night cruise hose would be Pirate Menu' Captain's Gala; Prince & Princess; Till We Meet Again. You can find the various menus here:

Not exactly sure what you mean by "to see what we could ask for instead."

Sorry I meant if we could choose which one we started with so that one would be the one to repeat. We are on a 4 night, so only one repeat. Or is there a special menu for pirates night?

Yes, Pirate a Night has its own menu, so each dining room serves the same food that night.

Each day the dining room will have its dinner menu posted outside the door so you can see what you might like. There are alternatives listed as well, in the "lighter menu."

The rotations are set before the cruise. For a 4 night cruise the rotation are 1223, usually. Although 1233 has been done also.

That's Animator's followed by Enchanted Garden followed by Royal Palace. (followed by Animator's, etc, etc, etc). One third of the passenger load will start their rotation in each one of the dining rooms.

So the rotations are AEER; ERRA; RAAE or could be AERR; ERAA; RAEE.

You can call DCL and request a rotation, but it's just a request. You may or may not get it.

As I said, Pirates night has it's own menu. And is typically on night 3 on a 4 night cruise. The other 3 nights you'll have the Signature menu for each dining room (different menu in each one).

The link I provided has a huge list of the various menus available. I'd suggest looking them over and making a request based on that, if you want.

Huh? 1223 nonsense? :)

Any business reason they don't just do 1231231?

Just curious...
On some cruises they do.

On the 4 night cruise, with pirate night being night 3, they have to repeat whatever dining room you are in for that night, in order to get the Signature menu for it.

Time was that the 4 night cruises did 1233 (same dining room on nights 3 & 4). But, with the debarkation breakfast also being in the dining room you had the last night of the cruise, many people felt that was just too much time in the same room. So DCL started doing the 1223 rotation.

You still repeat one of the dining rooms to cover pirate night but it breaks up how many times you visit each dining room.

On longer cruises, the rotation can have repeat nights following each other, depending on how the entertainment works out. Our Mexican Riviera cruises we had 1223123. For our 14 night Hawaii cruise 12312312331231

On our 14 night TA cruises they did a straight 12312312312312.

Thanks Shmoo! :)

Quick question... Pirate Night is *typically* the night of Castaway Cay day, correct? So on a 4-night that is Miami - Castaway Cay - Key West - Sea Day it would most likely be 1223? I actually like the Pirate Night menu, so I was thinking I'd try to book Palo on what would be the repeat night... Though I'm torn in terms of requesting a rotation as I really want to experience AP on the Magic, but there looks to be nothing save the "always available" main dishes for gluten-free...but assuming I go for that, I'd probably request Lumiere's for the repeat as I think I could live with skipping that restaurant - I would just rather not skip night one given the GF thing, and even though I DO tip, I feel weird skipping the final night in the MDR.

Pirate night on a Dream 4 night cruise is typically night 3. However, on our Halloween on the High Seas Dream cruise it was night 2. They said it was moved due to the weather predictions. Don't know if that's why or not. The weather seemed to be the same both nights.

The difference between the 1223 & 1233 rotations came about (supposedly) because the original rotation n the 4 night cruise was 1233 (with night 3 as pirate night). And people were not real happy with eating dinner two nights in a row, topped by breakfast the final morning all in the same MDR. So it was switched to 1223. With night 3 still being pirate night. Recently there have been some reports from people saying their rotation was 1233. But it doesn't see real consistent.

I don't really know what they are going to do for the Magic 4 night. I like the 1223, but I'm not the decision maker at DCL :teeth:.

If you plan on the repeat night for Palo, you would be missing whatever Signature menu is in whatever dining room you are doubling up on. But you'd get the Pirate menu.

Ok, thanks. I knew it was usually night 3, but then again I've only been on a 4-night where Castaway *was* night 3, so I guess I just figured it was that night.

I guess when the time comes I'll just maybe go for night 2 Palo (if I can't find the intended schedule before then - my reservations page has totally changed from my 2015 Fantasy where it was like "buttons" with pictures, how it's just words and links regardless of the browser I use. And then if I have to try and change things once on board I'll do that.
