Rose & Crown - Jolly or a Folly?

Hi!

I haven't read many recent reviews on Rose & Crown. And DH wants "something new" this trip.

We've never eaten there, & I've always been intrigued by the outdoor seating (& the Welsh Dragon). However, the menu doesn't really "wow" me.

This would be at the conclusion of our EPCOT, Future World, day. We would not be staying for Illuminations. The other places we are eating that day are GF Cafe (breakfast) & Seasons (lunch). We're doing Coral Reef (lunch) and Tutto Italia (dinner) on two other days.

So, would Rose & Crown be a jolly good time? Or would it be a folly for us?

It's a must do for us but my DH is British and loves his chance to mingle with his fellow Brits.

We find the food to be quite good. I'm very fond of the bangers & mash and the cheese plate. And the beer is great, too.

We typically eat at the R&C and have usually enjoyed it. The food has been typically good and the atmosphere is friendly. We eaten on both the patio and inside - the patio is nice (as long as the weather is nice).

Last trip (December) we had the fisherman's stew, Guinness stew, and Sunday Roast. The Fisherman's stew was spicy, but good and the portion size seemed large enough. The portion size for the Guinness stew seemed really small (more bread bowl than stew) and there was a very strong black pepper flavor. The Sunday Roast was really good (my favorite).

I saw that you aren't planning to stay to see IllumiNations, but just in case you do, there is a special viewing area set aside for R&C patrons. If you are eating during the show, you can go out there and watch the show, then come back and finish your meal. That's how we've seen IllumiNations in the past.

I've had Rose & Crown on my "maybe" list for a few years now! Last time, it got replaced by Spoodles.

I just think it would be lovely to sit outside!

This is actually for dinner on our EPCOT (Future World) day. On our EPCOT (World Showcase) Day, we are eating dinner at Tutto Italia (trying it for the 1st time) & then staying for Illuminations. So, we'll be seeing Illuminations during our trip, just not on this particular day.

I've shown the R & C menu to DH, &, while he thinks it looks "okay", there are other restaurants whose menus look better to him.

Right now, all of our ADRs have been decided, so, for this one night, I'm trying to decide among Kona Cafe, Narcoossee's, & Rose & Crown.

And I'm having the hardest time!!

I've eaten at Narcoossee's and Rose & Crown for dinner, but not at Kona. These are three very different restaurants and food types. I don't know if you're on the DDP, but note that R&C and Kona are 1TS places, while Narcoossee's is a 2TS place.

Between R&C and Narcoossee's my favorite was Narcoossee's, but it's a Signature restaurant so the prices are much higher than R&C. Everything we had at Narcoossee's was amazing (calamari, crab cakes, lobster, filet mignon, mousse, sorbet). We went late in the evening (I think our reservation was for around 8 pm), so we were having dinner when the Electric Water Pageant came by. We were also able to see MK's fireworks from our table (it was December and very cold so no one was out of the veranda). The final thing to consider (about Narcoossee's) is that it is a Signature so there is a dress code (not a really restrictive one, but it is something to consider).

In terms of easy of access, R&C would be the simplest because you'll already be at Epcot. You wouldn't have to plan to get there using Disney transportation or a cab. This would probably maximize your time in Future World.
