Rose and Crown

We've only eaten there once, but we really liked it! I got the pie sampler, and it was a great taste of 3 different dinner pies....I've heard mixed reviews about the service from other posters, but we had no problems at all! It's worth a try, IMO!

We have eaten there twice and have had excellant service both times. We have 2 what we fondly call carnivores in our family and they love the rose and crown. The only thing I don't like (and it is minor) is that the fish and chips comes with one big piece of fish instead of a few smaller ones. Cottage pie is the other thing I can remember that was a big hit.

I just had lunch there last week and really enjoyed the cheese and fruit plate as a starter and the cottage pie washed down with a couple Stella Artois's and the sticky pudding for dessert. This is good stick-to-your-ribs food and the service was pretty good. It was my favorite meal of the trip.

EXCELLENT for both food & service. My waiter even knelt down by my table (I was eating alone) & explained what some of the dishes were that i might not be familiar with as it was my first time eating there. :wave2:

We make it a point to eat at R&C at least twice! :sunny:
We go for lunch & have always had great service & good food. I have read mixed reviews, but R&C has always worked out for us.
DH has the flight of beers, I like the hard cider. We always get the fruit & cheese plate appetizer.
some of the things we like: fish 'n' chips! these are super! CS, Harry Ramsden's has a somewhat smaller portion but for $6.99!
Guiness stew; cottage pie; bangers & mash;& chicken pasty.
DH loves the apple crumble we all like the toffee pudding
We like sitting outside as well as inside! DS16 liked it as much this yr as he liked it when he was 7! we are planning to hit R&C this coming trip-
Enjoy!

Our family ate lunch there in 2004.

  1. Ploughman's Salad 12.99 Good but Teen did not care for it
  2. Lamb and Barley soup 4.99 Excellent
  3. Bangers and Mash 13.99 Also excellent
  4. Fish and Chips 15.99 Too greasy
  5. English Rose Drink 7.75
  6. (Beefeater gin, Apricot Brandy, Vermouth, Pineapple,Orange, and Cranberry juices) Very good.
My husband had an ale of some kind and cannot remember what other children had. Service was very good. Atmosphere was great. No entertainment or characters were there. Mary Poppins or some kind of English entertainers perform sometimes.

This was one of the meals I was worried about on our June trip (based on some of the opinions from this board) - but I shouldn't have worried. Our service and our food were both great!! This will definitely become a 'must do' every trip for us now. DH & I had steak & prawns, DS12 had Guinness Stew, & DD6 had the Mary Poppins Cheese Pizza. I had the Bailey's Irish Creme Brulee - OMG - this was SO GOOD!! :goodvibes

We go to Rose and Crown on each trip, one of our overall faves. We are happy with the service and food each time. Although, we always get the same thing, fish and chips with Guiness. I swear the Guiness is better there than anywhere else. We have also had the fruit and cheese platter which is also good.

Well that's how it would be served if you had a 'traditional' fish a chips dinner here ;) :flower:
