rose and crown/via napoli - need recent reviews!!!

We just returned from the world last night, and had two meals there. We had dinner there last week and while our waiter was "out there" the food was really good. We ordered pizza and were really pleasantly surprised, as we have never had good pizza in Florida. We are pizza snobs, and this was delicious!

We decided to go back for lunch yesterday. I did not care for the minestrone soup--but the rest of the meal was good. This time, our waiter was excellent, attentive, and very friendly. The rest of the staff was fabulous as well. Our glasses were always full, plates were cleared promptly, and all were really friendly. I have have only been to the Rose and Crown once for a drink, so I cannot comment on the food. Fun atmosphere though.

I like Rose and Crown, but our entire family loves Via. They are so different, so typically I would say it depends on which menu appeals to you more. But in this case, the Via food, atmosphere and service is so outstanding that I'll vote for Via!

We're a family of five (with three boys, ages pre-school to pre-teen) and each and every one of us enjoys Via. That means quite a lot because we have very different tastes and dining styles - from picky to adventurous, meat-eaters to almost vegetarian, light to heavier appetites. Everyone likes the pizza, our oldest son and I really enjoy the caprese salad and I highly recommend the sangria. Everything is very fresh, the service is friendly and quick, and the atmosphere is lively and fun.

While I really like Rose and Crown, not everyone in our family can find something they like on the menu. The potato soup is been consistently good and I love the vegetarian shepherd's pie. But I'm not a fan of the wedge salad (and I usually love those) and some of the entrees are really heavy. Our kids are disappointed that the shepherd's pie on the kids' menu contains lamb, which our picky eaters don't want to try. We're an unusual party because we prefer an inside table - we don't like the screened in patio so much - and we can literally never get an inside table (even if we check in early, make the request and let them know we'll wait.) But the service has always been very good and the beer flight is very fun!

Good luck with your decision - hope this helps!

I haven't eaten at Rose & Crown for about a year, but a year ago it was alright. We ate at Via Napoli about a month ago (first week of May) and all three of us loved it. Now we had a couple of the pasta dishes, but the pizzas looked really good. When I came back the first thing I did was go online and change my Sept Chef's de France ADR to Via Napoli.

we had both a few weeks ago and rebooked both for our novmeber trip!!

if i had to choose, it would definately be via napoli. my spaghetti and meatballs were fantastic, and his pizza was amazing!! this was really a great meal and i can't wait to go back!!!

I have ADR's for both for our October trip, Via Napoli for lunch earlier in the week and I chose Rose & Crown for our last night, hopeing to get an outside table and watch IllumiNations to end our vacation

Have never eaten at Via Napoli but we love the fish & chips at Rose & Crown

Click on my May 2011 thread for pics and review of VN..it was excellent!

I'll be going to the Rose and Crown for dinner next Monday (and hopefully IllumiNations *crosses fingers*), I'll try to get you a review when I get back!

We ate at Rose & Crown a few weeks ago for the first time in years. There were 7 of us including two teenagers and a 12 year old. Everyone loved it. We had the potato leek soup, the appetizer combo platter, shepherds pie and fish and chips. All delicious! Go for it!

In 20+ years of Disney vacations, I finally made it to The Rose and Crown for lunch. The server was very attentive withou being intrusive. The cheese plate was fresh and a great selection and very generous. I tried the bangers and mash and they were freshly prepared and very tastey. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend eating here. The other nice thing was the huge bar to hang out in while you're waiting for you buzzer to go off!!

have eaten at via twice now and loved it both times! i always stick with the pizza, dh had the chicken ceaser in feb, my friend had pizza with us in may, the kids had pizza once and spaghetti once. the zeppoli dessert is so yummy. we will be booking it for decembers trip.

We ate at Via Napoli in October and the end of April. Both times were great. LOVE the pizza :) I have an ADR for this coming October.

We went there in February and we loved it! I had the fish and chips which was cooked perfectly. DH had the steak, cooked medium, and he said it was one of the best steaks he has ever had. DS had noodles and sauce, which he liked ok, nothing really to special. I forgot what we got for deserts, but we both didn't like ours. Mine was a sugarless torte or something similar. Blech.

We have gone to Rose & Crown for several trips now and really love it. We will be returning in Aug. I like the potato soup and the pot roast dinner. We are also going to try Via Napoli for the first time in Aug. and we are looking forward to that also. Want to try some of the pasta dishes - not big pizza eaters in my group.

I am excited to read this. We are trying Rose and Crown on Thursday night for the first time. My wife and son always eat the fish and chips at the walk up spot. I am leaning to bangers and mash, but not sure what it will be.

My hubby is not big on italian, so we went with rose and crown, however, I am going to try to talk him into an out of pocket lunch (pizza) :)

Just got back on Sunday from the World. Didn't try Rose and Crown, but did try Via Napoli for the first time. I ordered the tomato and mozzarella appetizer and the spaghetti and meatballs for my entree. The tomatoes were good and fresh but there was sooo much mozzarella compared to tomatoes. The spaghetti and meatballs was very good. The veal meatballs were delicious.
My husband ordered the arancini for his appetizer and the pepperoni pizza for his entre. The pizza was huge and it was delicious. I wished I had ordered this for my meal, even though I enjoyed my spaghetti. He gave me a slice of the pizza and he ate some of my spaghetti. My daughters had the spaghetti (almost as big an order as the adult portion - I almost couldn't tell which had more) and the ham and cheese calzone. The calzone was different than I had expected, but my DD4 thought it was very good.

We both had tiramisu for dessert and it was very good as well.

Service was lacking a bit. Our daughters apps (fruit cups) were never brought out until we reminded someone after the entrees was brought out. If it bothers you that entrees and apps are brought out at various times and not the same for everyone, be prepared that this happens quite frequently here. It did for us. DH had barely gotten his appetizer (mine had come earlier) when I got my entree. His pizza came out several minutes later. Not a big deal to us, but it could be to some. Our waiter was quite slow on refilling our drinks, which was a major deal to us because it was so hot outside and we were thirsty from all that walking around. (Much different from our waitress at Le Cellier who would bring me two glasses of tea at a time to keep me hydrated! - loved her.)

I would definitely eat here again. I'm getting the pepperoni pizza next time!
