After all these years of visiting WDW I've never had the pleasure of trying Harry Ramsden's, The World's Most Famous Fish & Chips. It's on our to do list this year anyway. I would like to hear some recent opinions.

Thanks,

Note: I am guilty of sampling a pint or two at the Pub. It's one of the few times I enjoy a good beer (Black & Tan). :drinking1

:thumbsup2
I had them last November and they were very good.
The batter was crisp and not greasy. The fish was moist and not overcooked.
I have seen other reviews that didn't like them so it can be a function of who is the kitchen the day you are there. I have had them on 3 of my last 4 trips and they were always very good.

Hi there, sorry to bum you guys out but the fish & chips in the UK are no longer Harry Ramsdens, they are made with an in house batter. The contract with HR expired last year and Disney haven't yet renewed it. We do still have Harry Ramsdens in the real UK if that helps!!

So, they are no longer Harry Ramsdens. But are the Fish & Chips still tasty? Or should I indulge in several pints first, so that the quality of the food is inconssequential to my tast buds?

We enjoy the food and beer here a lot. We always start with the soup. We were there in September, I had the steak and fish combo, my wife had the fish and chips. We have been here 3-4 times and the food is consistently good everytime. I did not hear about the batter change though................

We have dined at R&C many times and for the most part always enjoyed our meals. Of course I always have to get a pint of Guiness.

That may explain why we noticed a difference recently. Our meal was not as good. We always loved the Fish & Chips.

Ate there in December and both DH and I had the fish and chips and enjoyed them. You have to try the mushy peas, our server recommended them and they were quite yummy.

We are Annual passholders and walk past this restaurant alot, but the other day we were there for the Flower and Garden festival and were looking for something different that we hadn't done in a while or ever. We ended up here. We sat outside facing the water. It was a beautiful day. Our food was wonderful. My son who is 2.5 had the potato leek soup that btw he licked the bowl when he was finished. Then we had the Cottage Pie I don't eat mashed potatoes due to having Gastric Bypass so I gave them to my Dad who had the Bangers and Mash. Then we shared a basket of chips that were amazing. My Mom had the Corned Beef sandwich. It was a great meal..we were really happy and decided we wouldn't overlook them anymore. One of the best meals we have had in a while.

We ate at the Rose & Crown last Friday night and had a great meal. DH had the Sunday roast, I had the bangers & mash, and dd had the fish & chips. We also started with the fruit & cheese plate and I found that dis unplugged review odd because we had very different items included. Ours included three kinds of cheese (mushroom brie, cheddar, and some really yummy Stilton), apple slices, nuts and grapes but no sausage or gherkins. It was plenty for three to share and I was quite happy they went back to serving Stilton as opposed to those cheese puff things.

Our server was polite and attentive and the food was great. We had no issues at all. DH is British so the Rose & Crown is a must do for us each trip.

Wow! We had the total opposite experience in February. We also ordered the potato and leak soup, butter poached shrimp and risotto, a scotched egg, fish and chips and bangers and mash. All were brought to our table promptly, cooked to perfection and were fabulous. The apple crumble and chocolate cake were also wonderful!

Our server was very knowledgeable and was able to answer all of our questions of the dishes. She told us what things were when we asked and the heritage behind each dish.

It was one of our favorite meals and DH promptly added to our next trip ADR list.

Yes the contract ended last Fall. The batter used to be shipped from the UK but it is now made in-house and includes beer! That's right, it's a beer batter :thumbsup2

The fish from the Yorkshire County Fish Shop (no more Harry Ramsden) has changed. The fish pieces are smaller. The chips are smaller (they're like regular french fries rather than thick cut chips). Not sure how they taste. I havent ordered them in awhile. With enough salt and malt vinegar they're probably fine. They're just smaller. Price hasn't gone down any though. And I don't know if shrinkage has hit the fish and chips served in the dining room.

We've taken the R&C off our list of places to dine. The fish and chips used to be a favorite but no longer. We at there this past October and the fish was greasy and flavorless. I think there is more flavor and less grease in a McDs filet o'fish. The soup was like paste. After going there for many years I was disappointed in it and won't be back.
