Anyone care to give me their Rose and Crown experiences, food suggestions, opinions on patio seating (or not) for Illuminations, etc?

Have never wanted to eat at R&C before, but DS11 has a new affinity for Leek Soup and I am intrigued by the idea of either eating outside to view Illuminations or at least being able to move to the patio at some point to view Illuminations.

The only time we have seen Illuminations the weather was eh and we were smashed together with some very rude people, so I would love to give DH and the kids an opportunity to really enjoy and experience Illuminations.

TIA!:cool1:

BTW, those food suggestions are coveted. I am looking to just do a bowl of pot/leek soup and the Mixed greens salad (with sticky toffee pudding after:rolleyes1)

We've eaten at the Rose and Crown a few times over the last few years. To be perfectly honest, I can't even remember specifically what we had - usually a steak of some sort. I do remember that the food was good. We've always been able to be seated on the patio for Illiminations, but we know that that's just the luck of the draw, and there are no guarantees. Even if you're on the patio, at some points there is an awning or overhang that can impede your view of the higher fireworks, so being on the patio isn't a guarantee of a pefect view. You can move elsewhere on the patio while the show is going on if this is a problem, which is what we did one time. I believe that people seated inside are offered a place to stand outside during the show.

I had considered an ADR at Rose N Crown - I'm a total novice. What's Illuminations? Thanks for humoring me! :goodvibes

Illuminations is the name of the fireworks show at Epcot.
We ate at Rose and Crown two years ago and it was nice. I liked being by the water, the CMs were friendly and I was very happy with my fish and chips. DH got the bangers and mash and was happy as well. We tried to go there last December as a walk in and couldn't do it. So I'm going to make a point of getting an ADR for there when we go next December.

First off, welcome!! :cheer2: You will find a great deal of information here. So, just ask... ;)

Illuminations is a fireworks/laser show that takes place on the Epcot lake. most people will say that it is outstanding! A "must see"!

I see. Wasn't sure if it was lasers or fireworks or what. I think we'll forgo that this time. My two little ones were good sports on the 4th of July, but I wouldn't count on it a second time!

I would never miss Illuminations, it really is amazing! If it's the noise they don't like, you can try earplugs. That worked for my dd when she was little. The second time she watched it she said "that was so good, it almost made me cry". I wouldn't count it out.

We ate at R&C in March and had a patio table. We did not watch Illuminations while we ate since we had a 5:00pm ADR. We were there on St. Patrick's Day so my DH thoroughly enjoyed his green beer. My DH and I both had the fish and chips that were good, but tasted like any other fish and chips that we have had in the past but the sticky toffee pudding was awesome. The kids menus were the typical kid menu fare, my kids thought it was o.k., they really only liked eating outside by the lagoon. Would we return here, sure, but we want to try out other countries before we go back.

R&C has been one of favorite places in Epcot for years and years.

Truth be told, for as much as the "Pub" part as well as the restaurant itself.

It's been our experience that some of the friendliest and most helpful cast members in all of WDW work at the R&C.

As for the food itself, I'm afraid it falls into the 'not as good as it used to be' category as most every Disney restaurant has since the dreadful scourge of free dining started. Still, stick with the fish and chips or maybe a steak and you won't go wrong. (I can't speak for the quality of the leek soup)

In terms of viewing Illuminations, it's real luck of the draw if you get seated on the outside deck or not. It never hurts to be extra polite when showing up for your ADR's, and letting the host or hostess know where you would like to sit. Trust me, they hear it every night from most every guest and they will do their best to accommodate you.

Even if you are not on the outside deck, once the lights are lowered and Illuminations begins, many people are allowed to stand outside during the show. Your view will depend on how crowded things are, and the weather conditions and so on...

I'm betting you will have a wonderful time. :wizard:

Thank you to everyone for all the postings! This makes my decision easier and we will definately try for an ADR when our window opens up.

Thanks guys.

I agree the food is not as good as it used to be , but still one of our favorites as far as alcohol and fireworks. :thumbsup2 Strongow Cider is delic. Great english ales (hubby is from UK) fish & chips are a safe bet, and the sticky toffee pudding is great. Always a great view of illuminations if you finish dinner prior to illuminations they have a viewing area for diners only.

We've considered R&C a few times for the exact reason of viewing Illuminations but we've always found their patio to be roped off for a private dessert party viewing of Illuminations. Sounds like a few posters have been lucky so it might work out. I've have an alternate plan just in case you only have the one opportunity to view Illuminations. It is not to missed if you've never seen it.
