Should I bring my running shoes? I read in the Unofficial Guide that they walk guests to attractions instead of doing the rope drop but I also recall reading a post that they still do it. Can someone tell me which parks, if any, still do it the old way?

Aloha!

When we were there in mid-january we were at every rope drop and never felt the urge to run. At Epcot and MGM people were definatley "walking quickly" but no out and out running. We were about 20 people back at each drop and my sense was that they just removed the rope and didn't walk it anywhere.

I have seen quick rope drops as well as instances where the CM's will walk (backwards) with the rope, then veer off to the side to try to keep everyone at a reasonable pace. I don't like that time at all, even though for the most part it doesn't get too crazy, there always seems to be the prospect of rudeness and trampling in the back of your mind........

I like rope drop. It's part of the excitement and group fun at Disney. Everyone is fresh and happy (for the most part) and looking forward to a day of fun. I have never had an "Out of Control" rope drop experience though.

we were at the rope drop at AK and MGM. At AK Mickey and Minnie show up on a truck, talk for a while then as they drive away, the rope is 'dropped'. What they did is they walk behind M & M holding the rope, leading people into the park. My daughter was lucky enough to hold the rope so it was pretty neat. At MGM they actually dropped the rope and people mostly walked very fast but there was some people running. At first we were walking buy then my husband took off. It was alot of fun running to the first ride.
