This is when the park officially opens, right? Where in DL does it take place? Can u get into main street before then?
What about on MM? Do u use a different gate?
And is it the same at DCA? Can u get in before 10?

Well, the rope is placed at the end of Main Street, right before you can really start going different ways. For the Magic Mornings, the rope is not there. There is a different gate area to go to that allows you to get into the park. I have no idea if they move it around, but just look for the signs above the gates...one section will say Magic Mornings.

When they open the main gates for everybody (I think about 10-15 minutes before the offical park opening), the rope goes up and no matter if your MM or not, you will be stopped at the rope (at least that is the way it seemed). Then, once the park offically opens and they do their opening "show", they take down the rope and you can "walk" around the park. Normally people speed walk, because they have CM everywhere telling you to WALK and not run. It is a really fun moment though :)

As far as DCA, you are really able to get far into the park currently. Once BVS opens, things might change. For now, when you enter the park you go through the long walkway behind Soarin, then you head in front of River Run (and can grab a FP for World of Color). You will get stops before the bridge heading over to the pier right around Little Mermaid. I am not sure if you can go the other way in front of Soarin to start heading over to Tower of Terror or not because my main focus is always grabbing World of Color tickets and then preparing to "walk" over the bridge to get in line for Toy Story.

Where in DL does it take place? At the end of main street

Can u get into main street before then? Yes, around 7:30, but they only let you go to the end of main street

What about on MM? Do u use a different gate? Yes .... The normal entrance gates all the way to the right

And is it the same at DCA? Can u get in before 10? Yes .... They let you in around 9:30. If you are staying at hotels there is a special entrance thru GC you can use by showing your room key at around 9:15.

Just wanted to clarify some things that Badge said, at least based on my experiences of coming to the park early.

On a regular day (no MM), they will start letting all guests in around 30 minutes prior to the park opening. The rope goes across the end of Main St., but a poster just reported that now that Jolly Holiday Bakery has opened, which would have been roped off, the ropes are now in front of the different lands as of at least Friday, 1/13, allowing guests to mill about Main St. including the bakery. There is not really a "show" like at WDW, but rather they just do a little countdown and drop the rope.

On days where there IS an MM, at least in my experiences, guests are still allowed to line up on Main St., but the sidewalk on the left side was roped off, so people could stand in the street or go into the shops on the other side of the street, but only people with MM entry (we were given separate paper passes at the turnstile) could walk on the sidewalk and go through the parks. Now, the last time I did a MM was two years ago because I have since had an AP, so if they no longer do it that way, someone let me know what they do now! I'll add that the time I used it and walked along the sidewalk with my MM paper, we showed up with only 15 minutes left of MM (couldn't get my then 13 yo sister out of bed!!) so maybe that's just something they do after the open the gates to the general public like Badge suggested? Also, I'd imagine that might be different since JHB opened as well.

In DCA, you can enter via the main entrance as of now and ride or get a FP for Soarin' starting at 9:30. Guests staying on-site are allowed in through the private entrance to get WOC passes and such as early at 9:00, but this is all pretty fluid. Who knows what will happen this year!

Only saw rope drop 3 of the 6 we were there in August, I had heard they only did it when they expected the AM crowds to be heavy.

We are curious about this as well as our grandkids first morning ever will be on a non magic morning and I thought being there for the rope drop would be special. This in 3 weeks on Feb 3rd. Shouldnwe make sure to be there or is it not that big of a deal?

The 3rd week is a semi busy week for crowds. They may have rope drop.

I always aim to be at the gates 30 minutes before it opens so I can beat most people and be the first to the rides. If they run a rope drop, the gates can open anywhere from 30-10 minutes early, this depends on crowds.

Definitely not a big deal. I've only once seen anything "special" and that was when a girl was selected to press the button to open Disneyland.
