Rope Drop Question...

It's not that we care specifically about being at a park for rope drop, but if we're up and ready to go early in the morning (good chances we will be), where are the "ropes" actually located? What I mean is ... is the rope area outside the actual park? Example - Epcot... there's so much to look at before you get to SE. A lot of photo ops and topiary to check out. Does that make sense? I'm just curious if we'd just be standing there waiting or if we'd have a chance to see some of the things at the entrance. Thanks in advance!

The only time you'll encounter a literal rope is if you are in the park for a pre-park opening ADR. You'll be blocked off from proceeding into the park if you finish before the park is open. But if you're just arriving at opening, you'll be held before the tapstyles outside the park.

Thanks for the explanation. I was at Epcot MANY years ago for this, but it's been awhile.... I just wanted to know what to expect if we happened to get there before opening. :)

At EPCOT. They let you n the park a little early and hold every one up before the big ball there is a rope they will tell people befor had do not pass this line until we tell you can

That's what I remember them doing many years ago! Thanks :)

A giant line will form and you just stand there and wait. There's not much to look at while waiting for any of the parks to open other than alllllll of the people. LOL

LOL I guess we will just not be in much of a hurry in the morning then ;)

Saturday at Epcot they dropped the rope at the front at 8:30 but had rope up going to sorin and on the other side going to test track till 9. Idk if its just me but kind of thaes the fun out of it when they do it that way.

This past Sunday HS opened at 9:00 officially. They let us through the turnstiles at about 8:30 but held us (yes, with a literal rope blockade) at the first intersection until 8:45 when they started walking the crowd forward. Those of us going to RNRC or ToT were free to turn right and head to the rides.

Sorry, but this is not true at any of the theme parks.
Hmmmm really..... tell me more! :) I just don't want to be sitting there in a huge crowd of people not being able to move. As I said, we're not interested in the exact rope drop or anything, just wanting to be there early since we do only have 3 days in the parks total if that makes sense.

I haven't been since 2011, but Magic Kingdom had ropes just on the other side of the Main Street train station. DHS used to have a show in the street with a literal rope. Epcot used to have CM's that walked with a rope basically to Soarin'

Again, this is going on 4 years...

Regular Hours:
MK- Guests are admitted through the gates 20-30 min. early. Guests are held just inside the gates in front of the famous "Mickey Flower Face" just below the train platform.
There is a Welcome Show, then the rope is dropped about "opening time."

Epcot- Guests are admitted through the gates 15-30 min. early. There is a "holding area" rope near Spaceship Earth or Fountain of Nations.
No formal "show." The rope is dropped about "opening time."

DHS- Guests are admitted through the gates 15-30 min. early. There is a "holding area" rope near Sunset Blvd. intersection (-or- near Gt. Movie Ride.)
No formal "show." The rope is dropped about "opening time."

DAK- Guests are admitted through the gates 15-30 min. early. There is a "holding area" rope near Discovery Island area.
No formal "show." The rope is dropped about "opening time."
------------------

For AM EMH, there will likely be a slightly different procedure, and guests won't be admitted
as early before the AM EMH time.
MK will have at least some version of the Welcome Show before AM EMH (and not one at regular hours opening time that day.)

Be aware that rope drop time may be earlier than the posted opening. For example if the Magic Kingdom officially opens at 9 rope drop seems to happen around 8:45. And I think the welcome show is worth seeing.

Yes,Magic Kingdom Welcome is currently at 8:40 AM with "Rope Drop" at 8:47 AM.:)

Three months ago the rope drop entertainment at Epcot was some soap bubbles being blown, in case you are interested!
