i got to rope drop on both days that i was at DL - the atmosphere was great.

They tell people not to run - but they do, people on their own, people with push chairs and kids on their Dad's shoulders - just ran like mad!

one of the main security guys that opens disneyland said under his breath 'Jeez - You have 13 hours in the parks' - as people dashed past him!

People just get caught up in the excitement of it all! :)

I sometimes fear for my life at rope drop.:rotfl:

When I was younger, I would make the mad dash...now I just get out of the way on the sidewalk so that people can run pass. I must be gettin old.

Yeah, but it's fabulous to laugh as people get to the second set of ropes and get to be walked back to attractions... well at least here at WDW.

We got in for the extra morning hour and were trying to get to DCA for its opening. Thanks to poor planning, that put us on Main Street trying to get out during rope drop. I hung on to my DH for dear life! I felt like a salmon swimming upstream! :)

You should have seen it the week Nemo opened. Man, what a mad house. People running like there was a fire! LOL Not listening to the poor cm's trying to get them to walk. I was worried about getting run down or knocked over. Just crazy!

Wow! That sounds kind of scary. I hope no little ones got run over.

I'd be inclined to step back until people who are in that big of a hurry get to where their going. Just thinking about being in that type of crowd makes me want to hyperventilate.

I'm hoping our trip is much more calm than that!

That is exactly why we don't do rope drop!! It IS scary and people are just so centered on being first that they don't even care what is going on around them. Makes me crazy so I just avoid it completely.

I did the rope drop dash! It was great. If the partners statue wasn't so tall I might have long-jumped it:lmao: to Peter Pan. I was the first rider and from there we went to BTMRR and rode twice in a row!:goodvibes

I was at rope drop at DCA once, waiting to enter the Hollywood Backlot area. They picked one family to ride TOT first, and they were the first to enter with CM escort. No one was allowed to pass that group as we all WALKED down the street. They had CMs walking in the front to make a type of line with the family they selected.

We never made it to rope drop in DL but we did at DCA. It was our first time to visit DCA and we were selected to be the "first family". We had no clue what ToT was really like so it was it made it even better that we got to enjoy the ride alone. It was an experience my kids talk about frequently.

Oh I KNOW!! I was there that weekend, and it was insanity!!!

last time we where at the parks(2 years ago) i was taking my then 8 year old on tower of terror. they had a cm holding us back and we where in the middle of the crowd. the front could only go so fast and the crowd behind us was going faster then the front. bunch of punk kids kept on pushing forward to the point we where almost trampled on. luckily for us there was a group of college guys behind us and from the looks of it they played football caus ethey where huge and they made sure the rowdy kids where last in the que:banana:

Every time we've been recently we witness why they tell people to walk, the dreaded face plant. The Knee drop. The Belly flop. The body part vs pavement bookie. And surprise surprise, the pavement wins every time.

I'm glad we never made rope drop. It is more fun At DL to just walk towards the castle and see it grow before your eyes. Then reverently nod to Walt and Mickey. Before choosing a Land.

I have to admit I am not a fan of the rope drop. Haven't done it since my DD7 was run over by a lady running to Nemo. She ran into my daughter, stepped on her foot which tore her shoe right off...she uttered a hasty "sorry" as she continued on her mad scramble to be "first." I know accidents happen, but at least stop to make sure the child's not hurt...surely that is more important that any ride! My daughter was crying because her foot did hurt and I'm sure it scared her. It wasn't a good beginning to our day at Disneyland.

Now we get there after opening (I know, I know...valuable ride time wasted). I just prefer not waiting in the huge lines to get in, and we take our time to walk up Main Street and enjoy everything without the mad dash. Taking everything in at a leisurely pace is much better suited to our style. We just try to go at non-peak times so we don't have such long ride waits.

I've never got their early enough to see the rope drop but am definitely going to this summer. Sounds like it's quite an experience... :rotfl:

if you're not going to Nemo then I think you should be fine. That's where everyone is heading for at this point in time. I can't stand it! It's small, stuffy, and the projections on the glass make me dizzy.

I'd rather ride Peter Pan first!
