Rope Drop or EMH/closing

Forgive the ignorance -- can someone explain what a late night EMH is? Where do I find out more about this? My family is not a RD family. This sounds like it could be a good alternative for us!

I'll add... We DO stay ALLLL NIGHT for MNSSHP but we feel it in a majorly bad way the next day. The last two years we were so tired we barely wanted to leave the couch. Which is why I don't have much planned at all for the day after our party this year. A pirate adventure for DS6 and dinner at Boma. That's all. I'll be recovering the rest of the day.

This is my main concern with going to a late night EMH. I feel like we lose a day because it takes a day to recover from being out all night. We have used late night closings during the holidays (not EMH because we were offsite, but still very late like 1-2 AM), but we always took the next day off. They are great though, and I agree that everything becomes a walk on and you can ride headliners multiple times! We do love those late nights!

I'm not sure how to fit them into our schedule this holiday trip though. We aren't planning any days off in between which may be a mistake, but we don't have APs anymore and we all really want to make the most of our time there. I don't feel like we will need a full day to recover from 7AM EMH--just maybe an afternoon break or an early night? We have never done those before though so it is unknown whether we will feel like they are as successful.

For clarification purposes, all examples provided of short late-night wait times are from regular park hours. I don't include examples from evening EMH as those hours are not open to all guests.

Disney offers Extra Magic Hours for resort guests. They are times when the park is opened early or stays open late and only resort guests are allowed to ride the attractions. During peak times, they can open pretty early like 7 AM for MK and stay open very late especially at MK. They are a nice perk and a good chance to have some less crowded park time. Some people, however, avoid a designated EMH park during regular park hours because they can be more crowded as there will be many resort guests who have selected that park as their choice for the day. One strategy is to use park hoppers to take advantage of EMH and spend the rest of the day in a non-EMH park.

I think that the Disney website, this website, and touringplans.com would have more information including what attractions are open during EMH as not all of them will be available. Hope that helps!

We've always been RD diehards, and will continue that strategy for our trip next month. However, now that my kids are 11 and 13, they can stay up later so we're throwing an MK EMH into the mix! We're still starting the day off w/RD (actually, starting with an 8:00 a.m. BOG ADR), then we'll take a long break at the Poly from about 1 - 7, then back to MK 'til 1:00 a.m.

The next day we won't head to Epcot 'til about 1:00. Although I wasn't a huge fan of FP+ initially, it will work out great for this day! (Along w/TT single rider.)

how great! Disneyland is the only place I'm familiar with, and EMH are always in the morning, there. Off to read up on this!
