Is it me, or did that "stampede" video for Anna/Elsa seem a bit tame? :rotfl: I'm sorry, but that did not seem like the big deal quite a few are making it out to be.

Do any of you remember from years ago when the CM's didn't walk the rope back and walk you to rides and people actually were running like crazy? There used to be a term for the race to the Mountains, but I can't recall it...

I was trying to find videos, but I can't.

I posted our experience on the other thread :

At MGM (HS now):
We were "planning" to ride Tower of Terror first, but the crowd had other plans for us.
The park opened and we had to just jog/run with the crowd and and the mass of people just moved us towards Rockin Roller Coaster. We had no choice!

We were laughing so hard and all I remember is my boyfriend yelling "don't let go!!" :rotfl:

^^^^ This. I have shared pics on a few threads of my own experiences. I've seen A & E at MK on Easter and then again this past Sat and Sunday with my 2 year old and didn't see anything abnormal. Rope drop was just like it always is at park opening. A lot of people, yes, a few running, yeah, but hardly anything dramatic. :lmao: It really is tame IMHO. As I said elsewhere, I let my 2 year old walk down mainstreet and I didn't fear for her life. People are just trying to get to the rides/attractions, but it's not this scene like something out of a Godzilla movie like some people are making it out to be. :confused3

I saw your pictures, it looked crowded for the lines, but orderly. I was more worried about just a mass of people blocking the walkways. :)

It wasn't as bad as the opening video someone posted of Tokyo Disney. THAT was chaos. I though the video Josh had was pretty bad. I'm glad I wasn't stuck in the middle of that. I ;ve been in plenty of DHS rope drops with the cattle drive to TSMM and never saw anyone flat out run.

My experience at MGM was before Toy Story was a ride there. Back in 2000 and well before. I think the rope drop procedures have changed since then? Before, you kind of just took off with the crowd! :lmao:

In 2011, I know they "walked" us over to Soarin' when it opened. Maybe that was a one off?

I haven't seen any of the new videos but I do remember the old days when you could actually run! back in the 70's and 80's people really ran to space mountain full out running. It was kinda fun and added a certain excitement to doing it.

Of course that was before the days of bringing strollers the size a VW bug for 7 yr olds! so more room to maneuver.

But it was fun to participate in. There was also the next group down the joggers, then the really fast walkers! Then the masses.

On our trip two years ago one of the things that I remember and that sticks out was the morning we were in Magic Kingdom before opening.

We had a Bippity Boppity appointment for my daughter and we were done with the appointment and pictures in the place behind the boutique. So we went out front and got some photopass photographer pics with a empty main street.

As we didn't have a ride we wanted to get to we sat down back by the hub and watched the masses descend down main street. It was really quite memorable and a great people watching opportunity. From the people off to the races to fantasy land to the families with wide eyes just taking it all in. It was really entertaining and fun to watch.
