.. the procedures for entering the park... especially on the First day of your visit? Do you have to activate your card somehow... etc etc.. I heard something about fingerprint ID's... is this for the kids too?

Ok, and now the really stupid question... is "Rope Drop" just a saying or is there actually one, is it at the entrance to the park or each land within the park.

Any and all details would be greatly appreciated. For us it is always better to prepare the kids on what to expect and it helps Mommy stay calm too...

Yes... Very Disney Naive here!

Thanks

There is two "gates" you'll need to pass thru to enter the parks. The first one is the security check. Disney security will do a quick look into all bags/purses entering the parks. The second "gate" is where your card is scanned and then you can walk thru the turnstill. I can't remember which parks has the finger scan thing but there is a pad that you place your finger on while your card is being scanned before you can enter the park.

Also, there is are rope drops within the park. As they start letting guests into the park before official opening, there are ropes help by CM's to prevent any guests from entering the attraction areas of the park. Once the park officially opens the cm's drop the ropes and the guests may enter the park.

Hopefully that helps! No fear, it's a pretty simple organized process.

Just to clear this up. The finger scanner does not record finger prints. It measures certain points of your fingers (biometrical) and records these to a file against your card. It will also group the info against all the cards in your group in case you mix up cards. It was designed to keep people from using other people's tickets. If the scan fails you can be forced to show ID or be denied entry to a park. Also from what I understand they do not scan children but I could be wrong on that. I have never entered with a smaller child.

The park usually has a little ceremony before the Rope Drop. At least MK and AK do. No idea if the others do or not. That first hour you are usually treated to a fairly empty park depending on the day and time of year you go.

They do not scan anyone with a childs ticket, which I believe is 10 and under.
