Rope Drop and Peter Pan...recent experiences?

I wasn't trying to be personal...sorry...

I did have TWO smiley faces in my post, I wasn't trying to make you feel bad. I do think this would depend on a lot of things though like if you have a father in law with a cane, a fussy 4 year old, a memory maker account and you know how to use it, a penchant for taking pictures while fewer people are in the park, whether or not it is raining, how much you had for breakfast, if you can walk by the coffee shops without getting a coffee, whether you go straight through the castle or wander through Frontierland and sneak up on Peter Pan that way. If characters are roaming about the park (although I don't think that happens at MK anymore - it did happen at DLR quite a bit). I think what kind of shoes you are wearing could affect the times, and also if you stop and smell the roses. :)

Oh my gosh!!!!! Thank you so so so very much!!!!! Thank was perfect!!! It gave me a great idea ok time and exactly how to get there, seriously, YOU ROCK!!!!!!

You're most welcome. I intend to do PP on my rope drop day this year. So, I was looking for videos last month to refresh my memory. I have only done early morning MK days with a pre-park ADR. So, this will be a first actual MK rope drop for me with a welcome show. I'm a little nervous about it, TBH, because I don't like crowds. I'm trying to prepare myself.

Not sure if it was last year, or the year before, had a FP+ for it on my later start park day, and had to walk right there, because I was running a bit late.

The question is... how many photopass pictures did you get along the way? I can't resist those so early in the morning.

We did it a couple of times and stopped for pics at least once or twice both times. We had purchased photopass and were determined to get our money's worth.

We did Peter Pan right at Rope Drop in mid-March, and for the first time we stopped to take some pictures in front of the castle -- because we were afraid the interactive queue might not be operative there if we arrived too early.

The interactive queue was open and it took us about 10 minutes to get through which was just right for seeing all of the effects. But I would not have wanted to have arrived any later and faced a longer wait.

If you should arrive too early for the queue to be open, I don't think you would have to wait long for there to be enough of a line for the interactive queue to be opened up.

I thought the tinkerbell elements of the interactive queue were nice, but once in that claustrophobic setting was enough for me. With as popular as that ride is, it makes no sense why they haven't created others with that ride mechanism.

If you're interested in an alternate strategy, we rode Pan earlier this summer on a Monday night at about 11 pm. The posted wait was 40 mins but there were only about 10 people in line. The actual wait was about 1 minute.

We didn't get to see any of the interactive stuff.

We went in June and headed to PP first. There was no option of rushing down Main Street anyway as they kept everyone really contained behind the rope all the way through the castle. Kind of annoying, but I understand why they have to. Too many people are idiots. Anyway, walked on. by the time we got off, the line was quite long already.

The welcome show is so cute!!! I rarely cry, but my eyes get misty every time I see it. Don't be afraid of the crowd. Just get there by 8:20 if it's a 9:00 opening to get a nice spot in the middle so you can see it. Since you're going to PP first, you don't have to worry about fighting the masses to stay in front of the crowd.

The reason I asked if because our fast pass for Peter pans flight ends at 4:05 (on a party night) so we can't get in until 4:00 but I was wondering if it was a possibility to make it (factoring in the grace period). I have literally no idea how far it is from the gate because I haven't been in like 20 years!!!
FP windows stay open for about 10-15 minutes past the expiration time (except in unusual circumstances), so you should be fine.

This seems like a very personal question. I feel like people will laugh at my time if I share!!! :) I just can't do it. I don't even know what would be a good time or lousy one. But I am getting in shape for my next visit. :yay:

LOL! Me too! I am so glad that Disney did away with the mad dash for FP because if my DSIL was not with us, Forget it! LOL! No matter how hard I try, I cannot get down Main Street efficiently! I can move on a mission in any of the other parks, but not the MK, so I remember this: If I am there at RD, and I know which attraction I am heading for, I will not have a long wait. And then I enjoy the stroll.

:confused3 Not sure why I'd be rudiculed, but I suppose if someone wants to do that, have at it. I won't be the one to be embarrassed. That's how long it took me to walk straight there last trip.

No worries! Folks joke here, and I bet this comment was just a tease. As far as touring times, my family would be considered pokey. Between all of us, we cannot manage to make it down MAin Street without stopping, gazing, taking pictures, and talking. We could be the poster for THAT family! LOL!

Walking at rope drop and walking at 4:00 can be two very different things. During rope drop everyone is headed in the same direction. At 4:00 you'll have people exiting, shopping, dining, window shopping, and all sorts of things. Unless they are still giving a grace period after the end of your FP time, I doubt you'll make it in time.

I agree- There is supposedly a grace period, but it's a close call.

At 4 on a party night, it could take some time just to get through the gates, then a crowded walk up main street. Personally, I wouldn't schedule a fp+ that early.
I'm curious though- How is it they could schedule a fp+ to start at 3:05 if they only have party tickets? We never entered using only a party ticket so I'm not familiar with how that works, but I thought you couldn't start scheduling fp+ until 4 if you didn't have a regular park ticket.

You can schedule a FP for any time that day.
FP+ reservation times are not regulated by type of ticket.

We went to PP at RD a couple weeks ago (peak season) and the wait was minimal. I want to say maybe 20 minutes, but it didn't feel that long at all and the new que was really cool. Worth it to do it at RD instead of FP where you miss the new que.

Thanks. Looking forward to experiencing it. My plan is to get there by 8:20. I would like to see the new queue for PP. I also would like to ride Pooh, Dumbo, and Buzz before my CP ADR at 10:20. Hoping that will work. I want to get to my ADR at a proper time to make sure I get seated for breakfast. Making sure I have breakfast there is the priority.

Was at MK recently (Sat, July 25th):

8:55 - walked through front gate
9:10 - got in line for Mine Train (about 25 min wait)
9:45 - got in line for PP (about 10-12 min wait - perfect amount of time to experience the new queue)

Knocked out Fantasyland's main attractions before 10am without showing up for rope drop (didn't think RD was necessary as we were going to be there until 2 am that night)

I think heading to PP first is a great idea. The new queue is worth seeing, but not if the wait is over 30min.

At Spring break this year during one of our MK days, we hit RD (saw the park opening show) and went straight to PP as everyone else headed for A&E and SDMT. PP was a 15 min wait SB, so we did it as we wanted to see the new in interactive queue. It was well worth it - they really did a nice job wit hall the effects.

Now if the wait was over 40 minutes, I don't know if I would do PP SB, but anything under I would because of the new queue.

We went straight there at RD last time, and the wait was only about 5 minutes. We walked fairly quickly, but did stop for a picture in front of the castle and didn't attempt to trample anyone :)

After our ride, DS wanted to go again. The wait was almost 10 minutes by then, but nothing like the 50 minute wait I saw posted later in the morning. The new queue wasn't being used yet either time though, I was s little sad we missed it.
