Hi all,

We will be doing a WDW trip with our daughter who will be 3.5 years at the time of travel. At this stage we are thinking we will probably try and stick to her usual bedtime, but that is 7pm and I assume still will be when we travel.

So my question is, what are the cheapest rooms with a seperate bedroom so my husband and I don't also have to go to bed at 7pm each night. (She is a ridiculously light sleeper)

We had been planning Pop Century, but wondering if it'd be worth the money to stay somewhere else so we can have that bedroom. Is Art of Animation family suites our best option? (I'd love to stay there but do cringe at the price for just the 3 of us)

You could look at ASMu Family Suites. Should be much less than AoA.

AoA family suites are rediculously high priced for a relatively low-rent motel. We stayed there last spring - but never again.

Check on the ASMu version. Otherwise, the almost-on-site WBC would be a good solution.

You could look into renting DVC points which would allow you to get a one-bedroom villa for a discounted price, but you should be aware of the various restrictions that come with renting points. There is information about this in the DVC threads I believe.

I would rent DVC points and stay at Old Key West or Saratoga Springs since they are the cheapest for rentals. I personally like the layout at OKW. Bigger balcony, bigger living area especially when the sofa bed is pulled out. The door situation for the bathrooms at Saratoga was so strange. Rent a car and park right out front of your room. For a child that age it is SO worth it. Not to mention washer/dryer. Order groceries and have them arrive. You will save a lot of money eating breakfast, snacks in the hotel. We came back every afternoon for naps so they could stay out later. You will miss a lot of fun night events, seeing the parks at night, etc.. if she is in bed by 7pm.

Suites will run you quite a bit more. It would be cheaper to get 2 rooms at a Value resort and have them connecting. Better still would be stay offsite.

We did two connecting rooms at th AoA last November for the same reason. Worked perfect for us. Also cheaper to have two rooms vs the family suite. They have some connecting rooms with a king bed in one side and two beds on the other, but you have to ask them to note it.

And unfortunately there is no way to guarantee that set up. Also if you like to book preferred rooms at the values a family suite at ASMu can actually be cheaper, depending on time of year.

Connecting rooms are never guaranteed. There are many posts here by folks who did not get the request. Some report even being in different buildings. What would you do then?
Not worth the risk to me

If you decide the expense of renting points is worth it....the one bedroom at OKW is perfect for this type of setup. We stayed there when someone gifted us a trip using their points. DD4 slept on the pull out sofa and DH and I could have a few drinks and watch TV in the bedroom. We brought breakfast food and DD ate while we each got ready. The full kitchen is a nice perk. The washer and dryer are a godsend! It is definitely more expensive but the benefits are huge!

I would personally go with the AoA suites. We stayed there our first trip and loved it. Stayed at POR to save money our second trip and much preferred the family suite at AoA.

If the OP is looking for the cheapest, the ASMu suites are much cheaper than the ones at AoA. Usually around $80 a night cheaper.

I would stay offsite in much larger accommodations at a huge fraction of the cost...almost 7 nights for the price of 1 night. If you fly, you can rent a car and upgrade one pass to an AP for parking, free Memory Maker, and other discounts. The savings will still be huge.

Good idea looking for someplace with a separate bedroom. We've traveled to the world with our daughter since she was 2 1/2 and a separate bedroom makes all the difference. We didn't do it the first time and found ourselves sitting in the dark at nap time and bedtime as she is a light sleeper. From then on we got some place with separate bedrooms but now that she's older we've gone back to a single room. The suites at AOA worked well for us, as did the 1 bedroom villas. Understanding price is a consideration I don't have any experience with what is at the all stars, but I'd offer a cabin at WL may be worth looking into. It has the separate bedroom, plus has a large "deck" area that you could enjoy the outdoors while she slept.

Cost is definitely one consideration.
But, in our experience, the amenities of staying on site - not just parking and memory maker - FAR outweigh the savings of staying offsite.
I would never stay offsite with a little one that would likely benfit from an afternoon rest.

But you give up a lot too. Have to make sure what you gain is worth what you lose.
