We're going to the Poly at the end of August and I've been thinkning about which longhouse we want to request. I originally thinking of one of the "newer" buildings (where all the rooms have balconies). Now I'm leaning more towards Samoa for it's great location, but I'm hesitant since the 2nd floor rooms don't have a "true" balcony. We love being able to sit out on the balcony while the others are getting ready or after the kids have gone to bed, but with the heat in August, is it even a possibility? I mean, I'm expecting the worst as far as heat and humidity. If we get a room with a "true" balcony (or a 1st floor room with a patio) will we even be able to use it? TIA! :sunny:

We used our balcony plenty this past trip (third floor Hawaii), I dont see it being hotter in August than it was now. It was cooler last August, but then again we were just hit by a hurricane.

We were in Samoa, 3rd floor, just after Labor Day last year.

I sat on our balcony during the afternoon while the rest of my family napped. As long as it didn't blow too much, I was fairly well protected from the late afternoon rain. It was hot, too, but with the shade and a cool drink, it was bearable. If it got too hot, I could open the door from the room to get a little "air conditioning breeze".

fyi, I didn't request Samoa, but did request a room with a balcony or patio (which the front desk mentioned when I checked in). Maybe on your room request, ask for "Samoa/Balcony" first, followed by balcony room if that's not available.

For our previous august trip we had samoa, lst floor volcano pool view, that was perfect, it was the 2nd room from the end, closer to captain cooks. This time I requested same. We checked in 11 pm, this was for last week of april/may. We were given 3611, this was our lst time on the 3rd floor. While we did like the true balcony, the ground floor is just grass etc, top floor is wood with divider, The drawbacks on the 3rd floor were mostly the great amounts of bird poop on the balcony and our rude neighbor who was smoking, I also observed guest smoking on the ground floor volcano side too, and our view was terrible, just the tops of some bamboo trees and the 3rd floor of the conceirge bldg. I am glad we didnt spend alot of time in the room for the view and I am glad we had a good ap rate for the room, otherwise, I dont feel the price for regular rack rate for the room is worth it. I made my requests about 3 months in advance. Last time for the perfect room we checked in really early, was also offered 2nd floor, but smiled at cm alot and he offered to move us next day so I said yes, well them "magically" the perfect room showed up. Good luck and if you dont get exactly what you want you might want to ask to be moved if what you really want becomes available during your stay. I also thought it was strange that this is the lst time I heard the cm say to me, well you know you have an ap rate and this is the room you are getting. I have never known your room view was tied to your ap rate. Just a strange comment. Hoping pixie dust comes your way.
