The apartments are airconditioned/heated but she can bring a fan if she wants too. Wireless internet is only available if someone brings a router.

There are pots and pans in the apartment. But there is no coffee maker, blender, or toaster.

I would plan on buying groceries/bathroom supplies once you get down there. I tried to buy some of the bathroom supplies before I went down and it took up so much space in my car!

The showers have cheap shower curtains so all my roommates ended up buying our own along with rugs. It would be handy to pack maybe a roll of toilet paper just in case the cleaning crew forget to leave one!

In my Chatham apt of 3 bedroom, we had 2 TVS, one in the main room and one in the roommates bedroom next to the main room. I thought it was going to be horrible sharing but it wasn't so bad and if I wanted to watch a movie, I would just use my laptop. We had 2 wireless routers for our apt so the internet wasn't an issue either.

I didn't bring a coffee pot but my roommate did, we had a toaster too, and maybe a blender from another roommate.

I used TWIN XL sheets because I wanted an egg crate for my bed because the mattresses were horrible IMO!

As far as shopping goes, as long as you have a GPS or can remember directions, there is a Super Walmart, Super Target and Sams Club within 2-5 miles of the apartments!

My apartment didn't have TP. Lucky our neighbors did and shared.

I have two egg crates on my bed with regular twin sheets with no issues.

If you have a spare non-stick skillet hanging around, I'd send it - we use one all the time for tacos, eggs etc. The pans here are NOT non-stick so they can be a PITA

thanks for all the info. is there a place to hook up internet through the cable?

In Chatham, the internet area is above a work desk that was in the hallway to the bedrooms. We didn't try and hook it up with the cable. The internet and cable are included in the rent so we just hooked up our wireless router to the internet area and set the two routers on the desk. None of my roommates ever used the desk..we'd set coupons, discount books, etc. on the desk. We either sat in the living room area, dining room table, or on our beds in our rooms with our laptops. I would suppose if a roommate brought a desktop without wireless, he/she would need the desk to set up shop unless they had a long enough ethernet cord to extend the internet into a bedroom. All of my roommates had laptops so that wasn't an issue for us.

I've got a question. I saw on a checklist somewhere to bring a phone & answering machine. Is this necessary if everyone has a cell phone? We have phones provided in our apartments at school but you can only receive outside calls (you can't dial out of campus) and make campus phone to campus phone calls. Since everyone has cell phones we usually keep our phone unplugged and in a closet lol so does anyone know how the phones would work in housing and are they necessary?

When I did the program in the summer of 2009, there was already a phone in the apartment and it could be used to make local calls.
