If you add the dining plan to your room, is that considered a package?

If you do that, there is no way to get a room discount? Do I understand this right?

I've never stayed onsite before and need to correct my budget since we would like the dining plan to be included.

the only way to get a discount on a package I know of is if you go through AAA. If I understand correctly a package consist of room/tickets both must be purchased on the package to add dining. If you have AAA I would call them, I have read quite a few people have gotten a good discount. Remember you only have to purchase 1 day tickets.

I did this for my sept/oct stay instead of using the AP discount so I could get the free dining. I purchased room/1 day tickets/ and received free dining.

We booked through CAA (AAA) before the dining came out. When it came out I called my CAA TA and she said that because we already had a special on our package we couldn't get free dining but we were able to get dining added for another $245 for 5 adults for 6 nights. That worked out to a little over $8 per person per day. A good deal!

A package is room and at least each person in your party buying a one day ticket. You could stay onsite for seven days, with one basic ticket for one day for each member of you party and you would have free dining for all seven days. I booked from 8/22 to 8/27, decided to fly in the night before and called Disney to add a room only for one more night. I f I did Room Only the cost was $99.00, if I modified my reservation for one more day which would include room and free dining the cost was $85.00. The cost to modify a package was less than the room only rate plus I get the meals for a day.
